Lesson Plan for Sony Michel

The Patriots shocked everyone when they selected UG bulldog Sony Michel running back in the first round. But you don’t let your lead running back leave in free agency without a backup plan. Nearly 900 yards on the ground, and another 200 in the air. Dion Lewis was an atypical lead back. His cutting style and small frame powering through the line of scrimmage. What’s more is that he played the part well. In the 2017 season he looked like a lead back. This production was bittersweet when he signed a free agent contract with the Tennessee Titans. Replacing...

Contract Dispute with Gronk

The Problem Is there a contract dispute brewing on the fields of Foxboro? After the eruptions following mini camp from Reddit “journalists” and other media members who should know better, the alarms have calmed down to their natural levels of halfway to panic. Reports out of Patriot Place say that while the team and their star tight end, Rob Gronkowski, work towards a contract extension, nothing is imminent. This is not surprising. The Patriots move very slowly with these high-visibility negotiations. Couple that with Gronk’s extensive injury history and multiple years left on his deal and you have the...

Jacob Hollister’s Opportunity

“That’s where a lot of players, I’d say almost all players make a big jump—whether that is reflective in their status on the field, that’s another question. But just from a development as a football player, that second year is a big year. It’s a great opportunity for them to take that first-year knowledge that they don’t have as a rookie and be able to apply it in their job now.” Bill Belichick.   The head coach of the New England Patriots often stresses the importance of making sure that a player is constantly progressing in his skill set...

A Big Impact

Which trade has made a bigger impact to the New England Patriots this season? The blockbuster trade that sent the scrappy, young Jacoby Brissett to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a speedster in Phillip Dorsett? Or giving the Detroit Lions a 2019 sixth round pick for special teamer and secondary depth player Johnson Bademosi? Midseason returns would indicate that the home run of those trades is for Bademosi. Injuries to Gilmore and Rowe were decimating the Patriots secondary and Bademosi stepped in admirably. He has defended against quarterbacks Matt Ryan, Philip Rivers and Josh McCown. Bademosi has solidified...

Andy’s Candor: Matchup of the Game!

“If a defensive lineman sacks a quarterback in the forest does he make a sound?” The Patriots That’s how I feel about the state of the defensive line of the New England Patriots. In the opener against KC they had some positives. Flowers had a good stat line of two sacks, six hits and eight pressures, but that was it. We knew coming into this season that the between the new faces and lack of star power manufacturing pass rush was the order of the day. The youthful energy and solid secondary would produce the finished product. So far, the returns are unimpressive. Other members of the front seven barely cracked the stat sheet, and with the loss of Hightower, the game against the Saints has taken an ominous tone. The Saints But fear not Patriots Nation! If the state of our pass rushing sucks, then the offensive line of the Saints is downright deplorable! Heading out of training camp without LT Terron Armstead, they lost RT Zach Streif before two quarters of the 2017 season was over. This caused a normally explosive offense led by the prolific Drew Brees to fizzle and produce just 19 points. Including netting four field goals in the red zone. Why it’s Important This matchup is important for a multitude of reasons. Let the young guys get experience and confidence. Allow the...

Are You Ready? It’s that time of year again! Summer is coming to a close. The days are getting shorter. Those mornings are getting a little chillier.
