Its time to give Mookie Betts a 20 year contract.

There are many great players around Major League baseball. Players of all shapes and sizes. Fast or slow. Sluggers or big on base guys. But there are no players like Markus Lynn Betts. Let me tell you one thing, that man is special. The moment he came up to The Show you knew there was just something special about him. He’s not necessarily that strong or that tall, he’s a smaller guy. He’s not Jose Altuve small, but he’s not a big guy. None of that doesn’t matter for Mookie. WHY HE’S SO IMPORTANT Mookie Betts is one of...

An Unexpected Hero for the Red Sox?

The Red Sox bullpen has far and away been the biggest struggle of this team. Craig Kimbrel has been lights-out lately, which is a great sign. Ryan Brasier has come out of the shadows in 2018; putting up a mid 1.0 ERA in about 30 appearances since he got here. Bobby Poyner is looking more and more like a reliable lefty specialist every day and Brandon Workman has been very effective with a 2.33 ERA in 39 appearances. After those four guys, that’s when it gets scary. Matt Barnes had pitched his way to a 2.25 ERA up to...

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, Brock Holt

The 2018 Red Sox lineup is absolutely loaded. Two MVP candidates at the top of the lineup in Mookie and J.D., a left fielder who’s hitting over .290 with a .372 on base percentage. One of the best, if not THE best shortstop in the game is Xander Bogearts, a man who’s having a career with an OPS not far from .900. Steve Pearce has an OBP of .400 and an OPS well over .900 since arriving in Boston. Jackie Bradley Jr.’s been one of the hottest hitters on the team over the last month. Mitch Moreland is having a solid...

Chris Sale Is Making His Return, but Very Cautiously

Chris Sale was pitching against the Orioles. It was his first start since coming off the DL and missing a few starts due to left shoulder inflammation. Sale wouldn’t disappoint as he’d strike out TWELVE Orioles in only five innings. He wasn’t going to be relied upon to go deep into the game. About one week later, news came out that he had to go back to another DL stint for the same reason. Sale and Cora both said it wasn’t too serious. Sale hasn’t pitched a game since that afternoon in Baltimore, but he’s finally returning… Sort of....

It’s Time for the Red Sox to Do Something with Nathan Eovaldi

Nathan Eovaldi started off strong for the Red Sox once he got here. He threw shutouts in each of his first two starts in Boston against the Twins and Yankees. He was looking like a great addition to the rotation. Skip ahead to September, and it’s not looking that way anymore. He hasn’t really had a good start since. His ERA has raised almost a full run in six starts ever since the shutout against New York. He’s not going deep into games, and he’s giving up lots of hits. With Eovaldi not looking like a starter anymore, it’s...

Why Jackie Bradley Jr. Is One of the Most Important Players on the Red Sox

There have been a ton of great hitters in the Red Sox lineup this season, hence the reason they have the best record in all of baseball. With Mookie, J.D., Bogearts, Benintendi and Pearce, this offense can and will haunt every pitchers dreams. There is however, a particular player in this lineup that doesn’t get enough credit. A man who is one of the more important players on this team. That man’s name is Jackie Bradley Jr. I myself have been on board with JBJ from the start. But many people weren’t. He’s always been looked at as a guy...

It’s Time for the Red Sox to Tip Their Hats and Call Players’ Weekend Their Daddy

One year ago was the debut of the MLB’s new promotion called “Players’ Weekend.” It’s a weekend where players can show their personalities off and put whatever nickname they want on the back of their jersey. The jerseys are different too, and consist of two of the team colors. The Red Sox have dark blue for the torso but red for the arms. I honestly think the jerseys are pretty nice and the overall idea of the Players Weekend is a very cool one. With that said, I want these jerseys cut up, burned, and to never be used ever...

Preview of the Red Sox last meeting with the Rays in 2018.

After dropping the first two games against Cleveland, the Red Sox offense would wake up and storm back to split the four game series. David Price absolutely dominated on Thursday throwing 8 shutout innings with 7 strikeouts. Price is now 16-2 in his last 18 starts. Boston will now go face the Rays at the Trop.  The first game in this series will most likely consist of Hector Velazguez starting once again with Sale being out. Velazguez has been a good reliable option to give you 3, 4 or 5 innings and handing it off to the bullpen. As...

The Red Sox’ Biggest Threat in the Postseason

As the Red Sox keep rolling on to the postseason, as good as they are there are always a few teams that can be a real threat come October. You might want to talk about the New York Yankees, of course. Maybe Cleveland with their great rotation and MVP candidates in Jose Ramirez and Francisco Lindor. You also have the defending champs. But in this case there is one team that is particularly scary. A team I’m not so sure many saw them as a threat back in spring training. That team is the Oakland A’s.  This is a team...

A New Role for Nathan Eovaldi in the Postseason

One of the genius moves Dave Dombrowski made at the trade deadline was to acquire more starter pitching depth. And that he did. Nathan Eovaldi has been an overall very solid addition to this Red Sox pitching staff. At the time he was traded to Boston, he had a 4.26 ERA. He was just recently coming off of an ugly start against the Minnesota Twins, giving up eight earned runs and nine hits in only 2.2 innings. Not very good. And who was his first scheduled start for the Red Sox against? Those very same Minnesota Twins.  Sweet Payback...

Can Chris Sale Become the Legend Pedro Martinez Was in Boston?

Pedro Martinez built an amazing legacy in Boston. He was just coming off of a surreal 1997 season for the Expos when Boston traded for him. He posted a 1.90 ERA in 241.1 innings with 305 strikeouts. Pedro would only continue that sheer dominance in a Red Sox uniform. He would follow up that amazing 97 season with a 2.89 ERA along with 251 strikeouts in 233.1 innings. His ERA would dip the next year to 2.07. It fell more the year after to 1.74 to accompany his 313 strikeouts, both career highs. Did you think that’s it? He...

Why JD Martinez Could End Up Being The GREATEST Red Sox Free Agent Acquisition

Many Red Sox fans were afraid to sign JD Martinez this past offseason. They were afraid he would just take his money and not take his job seriously. They were afraid he was going to end up like Carl Crawford or Pablo Sandoval and leave the same bad taste in their mouths that those players did. Dave Dombrowski went ahead and signed JD. It would be possibly one of the greatest decisions he’s ever made in his life.  As the days, the weeks, and the months go on, JD Martinez has continued to impress. He has hit over 30...

Pearce Keeps on Raking, Dombrowski Keeps on Smiling

As the MLB season progresses, there is something that is gaining more clarity every single day: always have trust in Dave Dombrowski. This man is a freaking genius. As far as this year goes, he’s made some incredible moves. The funniest thing is that Red Sox fans scratched their heads when told about these trades. Nobody expected the Red Sox to trade for Steve Pearce. It came out of nowhere. The reason Dombrowski made the call was Pearce is a first baseman/outfielder. Andrew Benintendi has struggled mightily against lefties up to this point. Mitch Moreland is also someone who...

New Look Red Sox Primed For Playoff Success

The MLB trade deadline finally came to a close, but not before many moves were made. Sellers like the Orioles, Marlins, and Rays all cleaned house. Buyers such as the Dodgers, Braves, and Diamondbacks also made some key moves. As far as the Red Sox go, I’m here to explain what exactly they did and didn’t do, and what this means going forward. WHAT THEY DID The first trade for Steve Pearce was a great one. In Boston so far, he’s hit .333 with a .921 OPS. He touts a very reliable bat and can hit anybody, especially lefties....

Red Sox Never Had A Shot At Zach Britton

Zach Britton was a name rumored among many teams within the last few weeks. Britton  had arguably the greatest season ever by a reliever just a couple years ago. Its no secret why a team in the pennant race would want to snatch this guy. The race for Britton came between three teams: Houston, New York, and Boston.  Recently, I wrote that the Red Sox wouldn’t have enough for Britton. They were in play for him, no doubt, as this is a team that certainly needs help in its bullpen. Dombrowski knew he had too little pieces to trade...

The Red Sox Can’t Afford Zach Britton (@bosox_4150)

There are a lot of names being thrown around in trade rumors for the Red Sox. Some are more legit than others. Zach Britton has been a name being mentioned around many MLB clubs. So far the Astros, Indians, and yes, Red Sox are prominent landing spots for Britton. A potential move for him  will be important in order to revamp Boston’s relief pitching.  The Price Is Too High Other than Craig Kimbrel, its hard to find many reliable guys late in a game for this team. The perfect thing Dombrowski could do for this team would be acquiring another closer/late...

Red Sox and O’s Discussing Zach Britton (@bosox_4150)

This Red Sox bullpen becomes more worrisome by the day. Joe Kelly, who is supposed to be one of the more reliable guys, now has an ERA near 4.0. In fact, since the beginning of June, he owns an ERA of 8.31. In other words, definitely not someone you can trust, especially against a team like the Yankees or Astros. As far as Tyler Thornburg goes, you can’t rush him into high leverage situations just yet as he just returned back to the show. Other than Kimbrel and Matt Barnes, who have overall been solid, there really is nobody...

Possible Potential Trade for the Red Sox? (@bosox_4150)

As the trade deadline keeps getting closer, reporters are linking the Red Sox more and more to certain names on the trade block. But which stories are more accurate and worth looking into? With a Manny Machado trade likely to happen any day now, he of course is on many teams’ wish lists. Those teams are the Brewers, Dodgers, Yankees, even Red Sox. As far as where the Red Sox stand in this, I wouldn’t look too much into it. The report that they showed interested in the Baltimore slugger was overblown. In other words, it’s not likely he’ll end up...

Are the Red Sox Looking to Trade for a Starting Pitcher?

The Red Sox rotation is among the many great things about this 2018 squad. Chris Sale has been great. Porcello has done a great job as well. However, there are still a few questions regarding Boston’s starters.  The first question is David Price. With an ERA over 4.00 this season, Price hasn’t been one you can count on so far into the year. For a large chunk of his career in Boston so far, it’s been nothing but meh. And meh is not what you want to see coming out of a guy who gets about $1,000,000 a start. I myself haven’t...

What the Brandon Phillips Signing Possibly Means for the Red Sox

The Red Sox haven’t gotten the best performance out of third and second base this year. With Pedroia out, Eduardo Nunez has been a nightmare defensively. He hasn’t hit much either. Rafael Devers, on the other hand, has struggled defensively, and somewhat offensively, but has also shown his potential. You have to remember at 21, he has yet to reach his prime. The Red Sox, realizing they’ll need some depth for the infield, recently signed infielder Brandon Phillips to a minor league deal. What does this mean? Brandon Phillips has never been an amazing player, but not been a...

What Trades to Expect from the Red Sox

The 2018 Red Sox are at the top of Major League Baseball in a number of things. Batting average, on base percentage, slugging, ERA, FIP, strikeouts- you name it. They’ve been strong in all parts of the game and haven’t had many flaws. There’s always room for improvement, however. Some of the greatest teams of all time even had minuscule flaws.  Boston’s Flaws This year’s team hasn’t had very good production from second base. With Dustin Pedroia missing almost the whole season thus far, Eduardo Nunez has been taking the toll out at second. And to put it politely, let’s...

Rafael Devers Will Be Okay

Rafael Devers has not been what the Red Sox had hoped this year. He’s hitting in the low .200s, not getting on base much, and the power has been average. His defense? Not good at all. He has 13 errors this year, which makes up more than half of the team’s total. There’s just one thing to think about here. He’s 21. He’s in his first year of being able to legally drink. In other words, he’s pretty darn young. He also looks like he’s about ten years younger than he really is.  Now why is his age so important?...

J.D. Martinez Is the Opposite of Pablo Sandoval

Boston is a place with high expectations. When it comes to sports, you can’t ever just go take your money and not play your hardest. That won’t fly. Unfortunately, there have been some cases of this very problem within the last few years. Big money free agents have signed with the Red Sox, and didn’t play near to their expectations. There are a number of reasons for this. Boston could have signed players at the start of their decline. Maybe a few players just didn’t care, or didn’t understand passionate us fans are. You have to realize that these...

Steven Wright Has Earned His Spot in the Rotation

We weren’t exactly sure what we were going to get from Steven Wright’s return in the rotation on Tuesday night. He pitched well out of the bullpen prior, but starting a game out of the rotation is a totally different scenario. Steven Wright’s start wasn’t originally going to happen. He was inserted into the starting role after Pomeranz was put on the DL with bicep tendinitis. At least for now Wright is the obvious replacement. But from what we saw last night, Alex Cora might keep him in this rotation for now, even when Pomeranz is healthy again.  Back in the middle of 2016, Wright...

Steven Wright and Hector Velazquez Deserve a Shot at the Rotation

Drew Pomeranz, the man who was traded to Boston from the Padres, has been iffy at times. When he came up in his first year, he wasn’t that good. At least with the Red Sox, he wasn’t. After posting an All-Star first half that included a 2.47 ERA, he threw 68.2 innings with an ERA of 4.59 once joining the Red Sox. He was great in 2017, posting a 3.32 ERA in 173.2 innings. He was very consistent throughout the year and went into 2018 with high hopes. But as of June 2018, it’s time we may need to look...
