With a brand-new NFL season just around the corner, it’s doubtful that the New England Patriots will have time to visit President Donald Trump in the White House.
Usually, the Super Bowl-winning team visits Washington DC for a customary meeting with the President. The players pose for photos and shake hands with the Commander-in-Chief. It’s a tradition that’s been upheld for many years. However, due to a hectic schedule, the Patriot’s visit to the capital has been cast into doubt.
Both sides claim they’ve been unable to set a date because of their busy schedules. The Patriots are preparing for their first game of the season against the Pittsburgh Steelers, a game which the Patriots are tipped to win. Meanwhile, President Trump is drawing up plans with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson about a possible trade deal.
Politics Not Involved
The White House and the New England Patriots have both said that politics has nothing to do with the decision. In fact, the President has been a close friend of Patriots owner Robert Kraft for several decades. Six-time Super Bowl champion and award-winning quarterback Tom Brady has also shown support for Donald Trump in the past.
When asked about whether or not an agreement could be reached in the future, a White House spokesperson told the New York Times: “We Would welcome them to the White House in the future should a future date work out.”
The Patriots are due to play the Washington Redskins and the Baltimore Ravens later in the season. Providing it suits both parties, this could be a sensible time to meet. However, time will tell whether or not that idea is plausible.
Record-Breaking Patriots
The Pats are undoubtedly one of the most successful teams in NFL history. They’ve won the Super Bowl a record-breaking six times since the turn of the millennium. Their most recent victory occurred in 2018 when they beat the Los Angeles Rams 13-3 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
What’s more, they’ve been the most dominant team in their division for the last two decades. The Patriots have won the AFC East 16 times between 2001 and 2018. Since making the Gillette Stadium their home in 2002, the Massachusetts-based team has been nothing short of sensational.
Brady the Key
The Pats have had a plethora of phenomenal players over the years including tight end Rob Gronkowski and defensive back Ty Law. However, quarterback Tom Brady has stolen most of the headlines.
The Californian-born number 12 has won six Super Bowls, more than any other player in NFL history. He also holds the record for most games won by a quarterback, best touchdown to interception ratio in a season, and is the oldest player to win NFL MVP.
On top of all that, Brady has won several prestigious awards including Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year 2005, Bert Bell Award, and Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year. Will one of the most influential NFL players of all time meet with President Trump in the White House later this year? Only time will tell.
