The NBA’s Western Conference is considered the deepest and most talented in the league this season. The defending champion Los Angeles Lakers are just one team fighting for the top spot in the conference this year.
While the Western Conference playoffs will be a very tough battle with few easy rounds, the winner of the conference is likely to be the best team in the league.
Here is a look at the top four contending teams in the West this season.

4. Los Angeles Clippers
Tyronn Lue’s team is in a fight for the top spot in their division although they are often overshadowed by the cross-town Lakers.
Paul George and Kawhi Leonard are the two big scorers on the Clippers. The team also is one of the best shooting teams in the league from behind the three-point line.
The Clippers are a veteran team and they have the talent and experience to make a long playoff run if they can get through the tough Western Conference playoffs.
3. Phoenix Suns
The Suns have a great regular season record but they still need to prove they can be successful in the NBA playoffs. Monte Williams’ club knows how to play solid defense and that could be a big factor in the postseason.
Devin Booker is the Suns top scorer and he’s averaging more than 25-points-per-game. Chris Paul adds a veteran presence and can still score and pass well at the age of 35. Paul is averaging nearly nine assists per game.
Players like Mikal Bridges and Deandre Ayton give the Suns scoring depth and balance and that will be an important factor in the playoffs.
If the Suns can keep playing well in the postseason, they have the talent to compete with almost any team in the league.
2. Los Angeles Lakers
Coach Frank Vogel’s club is the defending league champions and they have LeBron James, the league’s best known player to lead them.
James is averaging more than 25 points and nearly eight assists and eight rebounds per game this season. He is also a leader who has taken his teams to 10 NBA Finals in his career and has won four league titles.
LeBron is hardly alone on this roster. Anthony Davis is also averaging more than 22 points per game and continues to be a dangerous weapon for the Lakers.
Injuries are a problem for this team. LeBron is out with an ankle injury but should be ready to return in time for the playoffs. Davis is also out of the lineup with an injured Achilles but he is expected back before LeBron.
If the Lakers can get healthy in time for the postseason, they have the talent and experience to win a second straight title.
1. Utah Jazz
The Jazz are the one of the league’s best teams and may be the top seed in the Western Conference. Quin Snyder’s team is an outstanding there-point shooting team and they play strong defense. They don’t have as many superstars as the Lakers or Clippers, but they have a team that can play with anybody.
Donovan Mitchell is the Jazz’s leading scorer and he averages more than 25 points per game. No other player on the team averages more than 20 points per game but the team does have four players who are averaging more than 14 points per contest including Jordan Clarkson, Mike Conley, Bojan Bogdanovic and Rudy Gobert.
It is up to the Jazz to prove that a balanced team that plays strong defense can win an NBA championship.
