Knights Take Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals
It’s over in Vegas – the Golden Knights take Game 1. They are three wins away from winning the Stanley Cup.
The last six teams to win Game 1 have went on to win the Cup.
The game also had a Boston flavor to it, with goals from Colin Miller and Reilly Smith for Vegas and Brett Connolly for the Capitals.
After the pregame ceremony that featured player introductions by ring announcer Michael “Let’s Get Ready to Rumble” Buffer, Vegas opened the scoring early. However, Washington rebounded to take a 2-1 lead with two goals in the span of 42 seconds.
It marked the first time the Golden Knights trailed at home in regulation in the playoffs. But it didn’t last long, as they made it 2-2 less than three minutes later.
Vegas again took a 3-2 lead early in the second period. Washington responded yet again to get back in front at 4-3 early in the third period.
But Vegas regained the lead with a pair of goals by its fourth line to make it 5-4. The scoring finished with an empty netter to make it 6-4.
