Is Bill Belichick retiring sooner rather than later?

Bill Belichick’s Days Numbered Has Patriots Head Coach

Via USA Today

I wrote in April that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was retiring after this season. This was after Josh McDaniels came back to be the offensive coordinator. In April, it was all about whether or not Rob Gronkowski or Tom Brady would be coming back for the 2018 season. After Gronkowski’s dirt bike press conference, there was a meeting with Belichick, Gronkowski, and his agent Drew Rosenhaus. Gronkowski would then post a video that he would be committed to the 2018 NFL season.

With Josh McDaniels coming back, I said the Belichick would be retiring at the end of the season. It was based on the events of last year and not being able to do things he wanted to do. For example, the trade of Jimmy Garoppolo for a 41-year-old quarterback. The only difference is Brady is playing at MVP level. The right decision in Kraft’s eyes and Belichick’s was to trade him.

What Does The Extension For Josh McDaniels Mean?

With this new five year extension for Josh McDaniels as reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport yesterday, you don’t pay an offensive coordinator like a head coach unless you see that coordinator becoming the next head coach in my opinion. It’s not known how many years Belichick wants to coach. When I went to training camp this summer for Boston Sports Extra, I was told that if Belichick wants to retire he’s doing a great job hiding it. Again, the Patriots do the best at handling distractions.

I still believe Belichick is done at the end of this season. When McDaniels came back, he said he needed to know what his situation was going to be going forward. Once he found out Belichick was going to be on his way out quietly, McDaniels said yes to coming back and coaching his favorite quarterback. Say McDaniels was coaching the Colts, what would Brady’s reaction be? Brady, of course, had a say in bringing Josh McDaniels back like it was reported.

Belichick has accomplished a lot along with Tom Brady. Brady has stated he wants to play five more years. However, Belichick has not stated he wants to coach five more years. Belichick did state in 2009 that he would be coaching into his 70s. That’s not too far off. Don’t be surprised if you just see the breaking news one day that Belichick is retiring as head coach of the Patriots. There will be no season long going away party. It will come at the end of the season when people least expect it.

Tom Brady Had A Say In Bringing Back Josh McDaniels (@steveA1127)

The Bizarre Offseason

Courtesy of Jim Rogash

There is no question that this offseason for the Patriots has been the most bizarre offseason in 18 years. It began immediately after the Super Bowl up until Tom Brady skipping OTA’s. It was reported last week by Greg Bedard of the Boston Sports Journal that Belichick is upset that Robert Kraft is intervening in football decisions. Then, it was reported by Karen Guergian of the Boston Herald that Brady had a say in bringing back Josh McDaniels.

Brady Overstepping His Boundaries?

Guergian wrote “As for Belichick, he is reportedly irritated because he believes Brady tugged on (owner) Robert Kraft to make moves (Jimmy Garoppolo, Josh McDaniels) which ultimately forced Belichick’s hand.  My sources confirm Brady had a hand in bringing McDaniels back at the 11th hour, after the latter was headed to Indianapolis to be the Colts coach.”

In my opinion, this will be Bill Belichick’s last season with the Patriots and he’ll retire. Once Belichick found out Brady had a say again in a football decision, it was all over from there. Belichick is now preparing the team so it’s decent when Josh McDaniels takes over next season as the head coach. Josh McDaniels needed to know what his status was going to be with the Patriots before he came back. Once McDaniels found out he’d be the successor , the right decision was to come back to Foxoborough.

The End is Near

This also gives Tom Brady a year under Josh McDaniels before he too retires. There’s no way Brady is playing until age 45. While Brady is excited to begin his 18th season on the Patriots, posting on Instagram that he’ll play until age 45 is for the fans. In reality, he’s likely going to retire at the end of the 2019 NFL season. Enjoy the final two years because the end is coming sooner rather than later. Go check out his interview with Oprah if you don’t believe me.

Why Did Josh McDaniels Come Back?

The Future Is Now for the Patriots

Let’s go back in time to after the Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Josh McDaniels was on the verge of taking the Indianapolis Colts head coaching job. He was about to step away from the Patriots organization. But after the Super Bowl, Belichick, Kraft, and McDaniels got together and had a meeting. During that meeting, there’s speculation that Belichick announced his upcoming retirement at the end of the season. Josh McDaniels would become the head coach following this season. I’ve said this before, but the more I see how they are planning for the future it could be true.

Belichick had McDaniels in the draft room in April, along with Director of Player Personnel Nick Caserio. They stacked up for the 2019 NFL Draft so Josh and Nick can really build a team for the future. While they are trying to do that, the drama between Brady and Belichick has taken a toll on this off-season, and with good reason. However, some Patriots fans think this is all part of Belichick’s plan to fool the media, but if that was the case Brady would be at OTAs.

Josh McDaniels Had to Know What His Future in New England Was Going to Be Like

McDaniels had to know what his future was going to be like before he made his decision to come back. Once he found out that he would be the next head coach, he really had no choice to come back. It hasn’t been released because they don’t want it to become a distraction. There’s enough drama going on in Foxborough. If it is true the only people who know are Belichick, Kraft, McDaniels, and possibly Nick Caserio. Tom Brady or any other player wouldn’t know. It’s a fact that Brady had a say in bringing McDaniels back. Just like how he went over Belichick’s head to get rid of Jimmy Garoppolo.

Belichick is still mad about Brady going over his head, while Brady is still upset that Belichick won’t let his trainer in the locker room. The answer to why did Josh McDaniels come back? It’s pretty simple, because the future is now for this team, like it or not. Josh is part of the future along with Danny Etling who just signed a four-year contract. He may not be Brady, but it helps that he was working with Brady’s throwing coaches.

Josh McDaniels Speaks with the Media

Josh McDaniels Spoke Friday

Josh McDaniels spoke with the media on Friday on his decision to not take the head coaching job in Indianapolis and return to the Patriots. We know when his next coaching job will be: in New England when Belichick retires. There was a meeting between Kraft, Belichick, and McDaniels, which I’ve stated before, that McDaniels will be taking over for Belichick after this upcoming season.

The way the draft went for the Patriots is starting to make sense. They know Brady has two more years left and they need to start planning for the future. All Brady’s talk about playing until he’s 45 was just to ship Jimmy Garoppolo out of town. When that worked he’s talking about spending more time with his family and missing voluntary workouts. If Garoppolo was still on the team, Brady would be at those workouts- no doubt about it. Brady also had a say about McDaniels coming back to the Patriots.

Josh Will Be a Head Coach Again

Via SI.comMcDaniels was asked what went through his decision to come back on Friday to the Patriots. His response: “I’ll say this, I’ve stated again and again that I definitely want to be a head coach again. At the same time, I love being here. This is where my kids were born and raised. We’ve made a pretty special life here and that’s not an easy thing to leave. There’s a lot to consider.” Remember, he also did an interview with the Boston Globe when he first made the choice to come back, saying he had to know what his future was going to be like. Once he found out what that was, he decided to come back.

From this point forward it’s about the future of the team. They’ll make another Super Bowl run I’m sure. Maybe they’ll win another one more before this 18-year run comes to a close. But all the pieces are coming together in this giant puzzle in Foxborough. The Patriots won’t release right now that Belichick is leaving at the end of the season. With all the rest of the drama, the last thing Belichick wants is a going away tour. Enjoy the final couple of years, because in 2020 we’ll be looking at a completely different team. A team with Josh McDaniels at the helm.

Lamar Jackson Is Ready for the NFL Draft

Draft Day Is Today

Today is the day the NFL Draft begins. The day when dreams come true in the face of the NFL. The Patriots have hosted Lamar Jackson a few times among other prospects. The drama surrounding the team can be pushed aside for a while, and real football can be talked about. Bill Belichick is building a team for the future to have an easy transition for Josh McDaniels. What the Patriots are going to do with the 23rd overall pick remains to be unseen, but Lamar Jackson was excited when he met with Bill Belichick.

Lamar Jackson spoke yesterday in Dallas. According to USA Today, Jackson talked about Belichick, saying, “I’ve always seen him so serious. Even when he won the AFC championship, he just passed the trophy like he was so serious about it. So I was like, he’s probably going to be hard or something. But he was cool, laid back. Just wanted to talk and stuff like that, so it was pretty cool for me. We were just talking and having a conversation, and he was trying to help me. And he, like, giggled and started laughing, and I said, ‘Oh snap!’

Lamar Jackson Ready to Begin a Career in the NFL

Lamar Jackson wouldn’t mind being the next Jimmy Garoppolo. Jackson knows Garoppolo learned a lot when he was behind Tom Brady. Jackson also said yesterday, “When Brady said I’m a beast, I’m like, ‘Brady said that!?’” Brady doesn’t really come out too much and talk, but that’s one of the guys I’ve looked up to as well, playing football and just trying to learn to be a quarterback”. Nope, Brady doesn’t, so him approving of Jackson is pretty clear what could be happening tonight, even though Brady shouldn’t have a say.

Jackson also said that McDaniels and Belichick could help him grow more as a quarterback. Like I’ve said all along what’s going to happen. They are drafting a quarterback this draft to groom to be the successor to Tom Brady. At the end of the press conference, Jackson said, “I’m just happy for my name to be on their mind period, It’s cool to me. I’m cool with it in a positive way”.

Lamar Jackson Met Privately with Josh McDaniels

Will the Patriots Draft Lamar Jackson?

Via Dallas WeeklyNot only did Lamar Jackson meet with the Patriots in Foxborough, he met privately with Josh McDaniels in South Florida according to Sports Illustrated. He also was astonished that he made Belichick laugh when he met him in Foxborough. If you want to read into this, you can. It’s pretty clear what’s going on here. When does it ever come out that McDaniels has ever met privately with a quarterback the Patriots might draft? I’ve never heard that before util now. That pretty much says Josh wants a guy he can develop to be the successor to Tom Brady. Also certain that Belichick wants to leave Josh with a good team when Josh takes over next season.

Read Between the Lines

The NFL Draft is Thursday and the word around the draft is the Patriots are interested in Lamar Jackson. The picks the Patriots have are the 23rd, 31st, 43rd, and 63rd. Tom Brady’s future realistically has about two years, then he’s done. He doesn’t want a contract extension or play until 45. He even approves if the Patriots get Lamar Jackson. I’ve said this already: a year with Bill, Brady, and Josh. Then Jackson will have a year with Brady and Josh, and then Jackson will have a new team and a new coach.

Remember What Josh Told the Boston Globe

(Photo by Maddie Meyer/Getty Images)The Patriots really made sure they got out that Josh McDaniels worked out with Jackson privately. Remember what McDaniels told Jim McBride from the Boston Globe?

“I wasn’t 100 percent sure what the future was. I just hadn’t had any clarity on that. So, where did I fit in? Were there any plans? I just didn’t have much clarity on what my role was here moving forward. Look, I’m privileged to have the opportunity to do that and when they kind of crystallized that — ‘Hey, here’s what we see going forward and here’s how we would like you to fit into it’ — it gave me a reason to stop and say, ‘All right, what’s the best decision for me?’ And certainly, it was difficult. But I made the decision on my own, nobody pushed me into it.’’

In other words, once he found out he was the next head coach it was clear where he needed to be. Which explains why McDaniels worked out Lamar Jackson privately in Florida.

Bill Belichick Is Building a Team for the Future

Inside The “Patriot Way”

According to an insider at Patriot Place, Bill Belichick retiring after this season. It’s clear through what he’s doing this off-season. Bill Belichick will build a team through the draft. So, when Josh McDaniels is the head coach next season, he will have a fairly young squad. The Patriots need to start planning for the next ten years, which means post-Brady and Belichick, starting this season. Belichick won’t leave Josh McDaniels stranded when he leaves after this season. Belichick will make sure Josh has the right players to win. That means a new quarterback too, Tom. A quarterback will be drafted in this upcoming NFL draft like I’ve previously stated.

Bill Belichick Has High Praise for Josh McDaniels

Belichick has always highly praised Josh McDaniels. However, it just goes against the “Patriot Way” for Bill or Josh to come right out and say that this will be Bill’s last season. This draft class has bad wide receivers, which means Tom Brady could have a very hard time if Edelman or Gronkowski gets hurt. It will be up to 41-year-old Tom Brady to carry the team, like he has for 19 seasons.

However, Bill Belichick will ride off into the sunset after this season, giving Josh everything he needs to be successful. Also, Brady will be forced out because he won’t want to be on a rebuilding team. But he can say that he was on a team with Josh McDaniels as a head coach. It’s not certain if Brady knows this will be Bill Belichick’s last season. But when he does find out this is how these next two seasons will play out behind the walls of Gillette Stadium.

The First Episode of “Tom vs. Time” Was Different from the Last Episode

Via hubwav

Remember the beginning of “Tom Vs. Time” when Brady said, “I’m willing to give up my life. Are you willing to give up yours?” Then in episode six, after Jimmy Garoppolo trade, he says, “Why are we doing this?” Also, he began talking about spending more time with his family this off-season. It seems Kraft is on both sides when it comes to Belichick and Brady. He was on Brady’s side last year with getting rid of Jimmy Garoppolo. Now, this off-season he’s siding with Belichick. The man who wants to build a team for Josh McDaniels when he takes over next season.

Bill Belichick Is on His Way Out

Bill Belichick’s Final Year…

Via SI.com

All these Patriot moves seem to be very clear to me what’s really going on. Yes, there’s tension. However, the media is getting fed information to hide what is really happening at Gillette Stadium. Let’s go back to McDaniels, Kraft, and Belichick’s meeting after the Super Bowl. During that meeting, according to an insider at Patriot Place, Bill Belichick told Josh that his upcoming season would be his last, and that Josh would take over next season. Now let’s look at what Josh McDaniels said when he decided to go to the Patriots. McDaniels said he needed to know what his future was going to be like, and once he found out Bill’s retirement plans it was clear that the right decision was to stay in New England.

Belichick Is Cleaning House to Give Josh a Fresh Start

Via TwitterWhat you’re seeing right now is Bill Belichick cleaning house. Belichick wants to give McDaniels a fresh start when he takes over next season. The Patriots have now parted ways with Nate Solder, Danny Amendola, Malcolm Butler, Brandin Cooks, and Dion Lewis. If that’s not cleaning house, then I don’t know what is. From what I’m being told, the media is being fed the Gronk and Brady rumors to distract from what is really going on. Bill Belichick is leaving at the end of this season. The Gronkowski and Brady news is true, however, Bill Belichick retiring is a bigger distraction. Why hasn’t a beat reporter gotten news on this yet? Why would the Patriots release that information when they can release smaller information about Gronk and Brady.

Bill Belichick is working out as many players as possible coming up in this NFL Draft. He’s doing this to draft the best players to build a team for the future. They will draft a quarterback in this draft, which is why the Brandin Cooks trade happened. When they draft a quarterback in this draft, Bill Belichick, Josh McDaniels, and Tom Brady will groom him to be a starter in a few years.

Bill Belichick Will Groom a Quarterback This Year

One year with Bill as head coach, one year with Josh as head coach, and then Brady will retire. The Patriots will be a team like they were in the 90’s. I don’t want to hear that Brady is playing to 45, all he’s doing now his concentrating on his brand and taking it year to year. Bill is sticking it to Tom by retiring after this season because of going over his head to Kraft about trading Jimmy Garoppolo. Also, he’s pretty much done everything he can accomplish as a football coach.

The Patriots Are Giving the Media Some of What Really Is Going On

Via NFL.comThe Brandin Cooks trade was another example of cleaning house. Don’t be surprised to start seeing Julian Edelman rumors starting if he doesn’t like the “Patriot Way” either. This is all so the media doesn’t find out Bill Belichick is retiring after this season. Again, the Patriots will only give the media what is in the best interest for them. Edelman could be getting sick of Belichick and the “Patriot Way”. However, the bigger rumor about Bill Belichick remains in-house, or so we thought.

I wanted to get confirmation before I put this out while Bill Belichick is making moves. It seems to be all making sense, even before the Brandin Cooks trade. I’m not sure if Brady or Gronk know this is Bill Belichick’s last season as head coach. You can believe me, or not, but the recent moves and stories being leaked out is proving my point. It’s been a great ride for Bill Belichick, and he ride off into the sunset with the five Super Bowl rings that he won in New England.

Josh McDaniels: Next Head Coach?

Josh McDaniels Will Be the Next Head Coach

Via SI.com

Josh McDaniels spoke for the first time since he came back to the Patriots. He told the Boston Globe, “I wasn’t 100 percent sure what the future was. I just hadn’t had any clarity on that. So, where did I fit in? Were there any plans? I just didn’t have much clarity on what my role was here moving forward.” Reading into that, he’s basically asking moving forward if will he be the next head coach for the Patriots or not. He basically asked Robert Kraft and Belichick after the Super Bowl loss, “How can you help me get there”.

He would go on to say to the Globe, “The opportunity to stay here and work for who I think is the greatest owner in sports and the best head football coach in the history of our game, to work with the best quarterback that has ever played … I’m privileged to have the opportunity to do that and when they kind of crystallized that — ‘Hey, here’s what we see going forward and here’s how we would like you to fit into it’ — it gave me a reason to stop and say, ‘All right, what’s the best decision for me?’ And certainly, it was difficult. But I made the decision on my own, nobody pushed me into it. Once I heard from Robert and Bill on that Tuesday, it just gave me the reason to pause and consider this whole situation.”

It’s so obvious after this quote he’s next in line to take Bill Belichick’s job. Belichick has been quite happy as of late, calling a press conference on Sunday. Will Bill have an executive role with the team this time next season? Or will Belichick not hand the keys to McDaniels yet? That still remains to be seen. Of course, Tom Brady had something to do with him coming back too.

Matt Patricia, Josh McDaniels Are Going Nowhere

Let the Rumors of the Coordinators Leaving Begin

Via nj.com

The Patriots are once again in the playoffs. Matt Patricia and Josh McDaniels are in rumors of head coaching jobs around the league. Josh McDaniels said this week, “My focus here when I come into this building will always be on what’s best for the Patriots. Trying to do what I can to help us prepare to play our best game the next time we go out on the field”. Patricia also is only focused on the Patriots, saying, “I have no idea about any of that. None of that is even really applicable for me right now because I don’t have any information on that. I’m in normal mode”.

Will Belichick Leave or Retire After This Season?

Via NBC Sports

It’s been reported the Giants have asked permission to talk to McDaniels and Patricia. Many other teams but I have a different theory. Bill Belichick is 65 and wanted to keep Jimmy Garoppolo, when Robert Kraft stepped in and sided with Brady. What if after the Patriots win their sixth Super Bowl Belichick either retires or just leaves? Imagine if he left the Patriots to coach the Giants, where he started his career as a coach. It sounds far-fetched but it’s an interesting theory. Patricia becomes the head coach of the Patriots next season and McDaniels is the offensive coordinator for next year as well. Until Brady retires after next season, Garoppolo comes back maybe after getting some playing time in San Francisco.

By Keeping Brady the Patriots Aren’t Planning for the Future

Via UMass Blogs

Now if Garoppolo doesn’t come back, the Patriots are screwed at quarterback. They will have to find a decent replacement for the greatest of all time. Patricia and McDaniels have been around the Patriots for a long time and know how the team works. McDaniels has tried head coaching jobs in the past but they haven’t worked out. Patricia has never held a head coaching job and I really don’t think he would go anywhere besides New England.
