Jayson Tatum beat the Knicks by himself Friday night. Thirty-six points, 25 of them after halftime, a 107-103 win in Boston’s home opener.
Nobody wanted to talk about that.
Every question afterward was about Jaylen Brown. Tatum tried to kill the story in one breath: “Like, this ain’t no f***ing Shaq and Kobe. Like, there’s no beef.” He said he’d already reached out to Brown the day of the trade — calls, texts, an open invitation to talk it out.
Credit him for trying. Comparing your situation favorably to Shaq and Kobe is still bringing up Shaq and Kobe.
Brown wasn’t done either. In a vlog, Tatum said Brown’s trade blindsided him as much as it did everyone else. Brown’s reply to that was a cap emoji, dropped straight into the comments of the Bleacher Report post carrying the clip. Translation, for anyone who skipped that semester of Instagram: he thinks Tatum’s lying.
Then came the real headline.
Jaylen Brown on Jayson Tatum: “It’s no beef, but it might be little lamb chops and some gravy, you know what I mean?
“He should stay ready at all times.” pic.twitter.com/1jkBUKguWr

“He’s got a great PR team.” Followed immediately by the line everybody’s repeating today — no beef, but maybe a little lamb chops. With gravy. That’s a denial doing a victory lap.
Boston shipped out a Finals MVP for Paul George and a stack of picks over the summer, and three months later the two guys are still negotiating the breakup in public, one emoji and one food metaphor at a time. Let them keep going. This is better content than anything either team’s actually playing right now.
