Tom Brady will officially retire a Patriot

New contract for Tom Brady

Tom Brady has signed a two year $70 million contract extension with the Patriots. The 42-year-old, who just had a birthday, will be 44 when his contract is up. That the greatest NFL Quarterback of all time will retire a Patriot. Brady’s been the counterpart to Bill Belichick for the organization for 20 years and counting. When you think of the Patriots you always think of Belichick and Brady. He gets an $8 million raise this year then $30 and $31 million the following years.

Getting the deal done puts this away for two years. Now they can concentrate on football. No more questions about a new contract for Brady, or finishing his career in New England. There was no way Robert Kraft would let him finish it anywhere else anyway. He’s the face of the franchise in so many ways, and I don’t think he would want to play anywhere else. He loves it here between the team, community, etc. It would be crazy for him to leave.

Brady will end his career with the Patriots

The only time there was a concern was when the Patriots had Jimmy Garoppolo, who was supposed to be Brady’s replacement. But Brady had different ideas kicked it into gear and won two Super Bowls. Garoppolo was then traded and Brady has won another one. Seems like they chose the right guy. At some point, though, they have to get ready for post-Brady. But for now and a couple more years it’s all Brady.

What makes Brady different from any other Quarterback in the game is his attitude, and turning an average Wide Receiver into a great one. He’s won Super bowls with all kinds of talent on the offensive side. From Troy Brown, Deion Branch, Julian Edelman, and Rob Gronkowski, he’s done it with all types of talent at the receiver position. Ty Law was just inducted into the Pro Football Hall Of Fame, the first from the early 2000s Super Bowl teams. Someday you’re going to see Tom Brady at the podium wearing a gold jacket for the career he’s had, and will continue to have.

It has been a year since Kirk Minihane checked himself into a mental hospital with suicidal thoughts

Last August 2nd, Kirk Minihane checked himself into Winchester Hospital with suicidal thoughts. Later, he was moved to McLean Hospital, a psychiatric hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts. Minihane tweeted this explaining his situation. The next day he did what he often does, discussed what was going on in his life

Minihane was very candid about what happened during one of the most frightening times of his life. He discussed how much research he did on the topic of suicide. Minihane went into detail about what method he thought about using. He also laid out the factors that were triggering the incredible pressure he felt. Listening to it again, it almost sounds like a therapy session.

Now there are many reasons Kirk Minihane is a compelling media personality. He is very witty and sarcastic. Minihane knows what stories his audience wants to hear discussed. He is not afraid to share his opinions no matter who disagrees with them. However, his willingness to discuss real issues in his life might be his best attribute.

Many broadcasters choose to not be so forthcoming with their personal lives. And honestly, who can blame them? It is often difficult to discuss challenges in life with loved ones. Most media members do not want to share their issues to thousands of strangers. But that is a big reason why Minihane’s fan-base is so incredibly loyal and rabid. He elicits a more personal connection with his audience. They feel like they know Kirk.

Minihane has never been shy about letting his listeners peak behind the curtain. He always loved sharing the local media gossip, especially when it involved WEEI drama. Minihane also opened up when he lost both of his parents to cancer in 2017. However, this conversation about his suicidal thoughts really took his candor to a new level.

Minihane is currently at Barstool Sports and can truly speak in an unfiltered atmosphere. It will be interesting to hear how he addresses this anniversary. He tweeted this out on Friday.

It is rather impressive Minihane can talk about his mental health issues in a public forum. In such a vulnerable setting, he is letting all of his pain be known. Minihane believes mental health is still stigmatized in our society. He has talked about how hard it is for people to admit they need help.

Minihane has said he now feels much more comfortable talking about his mental health struggles or hard times in life. He also encourages people to reach out to him if they are going through mental health problems.

Minihane is like no other in media member because no conversation topic is off limits, no matter how hard it may be to talk about.

Boston Bruins History: Bruins Brawl in the Stands

The Boston Bruins and New York Rangers were bitter rivals in the ‘70s. The rivalry, at times, was just as intense as the rivalry between Boston and Montreal. On the night of December 23, 1979, closing in on the end of the decade, the Rangers hosted the Bruins at Madison Square Garden. They were having a good game, leading the Bruins 3-1 in the third. The Bruins came back, however, scoring three unanswered goals from Terry O’Reilly, Bobby Lalonde, and Stan Jonathan. They won the game 4-3. The comeback and how fast it happened caused a lot of anger. As a result, the fans became especially vocal and threw things onto the ice.

A Physical Game

The teams were physical throughout the night with a few fights and big hits. At the final buzzer Bruins left winger Al Secord tripped Rangers center Ulf Nilsson with his stick and chaos ensued. Nilsson had been badgered all night and this was the tipping point. John Davidson, the Rangers goalie, took issue with Secord and skated across the ice and hit him into the boards, starting a brawl.

Terry O’Reilly climbs into the stands at Madison Square Garden, Dec. 23, 1979.

The Fans Join In

In addition to the fighting, a fan in the New York stands reached over the glass and hit Bruins left winger Stan “Bulldog” Jonathan in the face with a rolled up program, drawing blood. Tempers were flaring and, because of that, more fans reached over the glass and began punching the Bruins. Jonathan raised his stick instinctively and someone in the crowd took it from him. After that, right winger Terry “Taz” O’Reilly climbed over the glass, into the stands, and started fighting the fans. The fans jumped on O’Reilly and one even took off their belt and swung it as a weapon. Eighteen members of the Bruins climbed into the stands to help, and a brawl with the fans was on.

The “Shoe Incident”

Defenseman Mike Milbury was already off the ice and in the locker room, celebrating the win. He noticed the locker room was close to empty. When goalie Gerry Cheevers entered, Milbury asked where everyone was. Cheevers told him about the skirmish, so Milbury went to check it out. He got back to the ice just in time to see O’Reilly go into the stands and get swarmed by fans throwing punches. Milbury skated over and joined the fight to back up his teammate.

John Kaptain, a businessman from New Jersey, ended up shoved into a seat. Mike Milbury took off Kaptain’s shoe and hit him with it, thereby creating the infamous “shoe incident”. Milbury later said, “I wanted to protect (O’Reilly); the team. It was the thing to do… The worst thing I did was throw the shoe on the ice, which I thought was the perfect medicine. And he got a slap on the thigh with his cheap penny loafer.”

Front Page of the New York Daily News, Dec. 24th, 1979.

Aftermath

As a result of the fiasco, the fallout came swiftly. John Kaptain was arrested for disorderly conduct. Terry O’Reilly was suspended eight games and Mike Milbury and Peter McNab were each suspended six for their roles in the brawl. All eighteen players that went into the stands were fined $500. The decision to install higher glass panels at every NHL arena was made almost immediately, therefore similar events were prevented in the future. The Big Bad Bruins lived up to their name countless times throughout the ‘70s. Fighting the New York Rangers and their fans was arguably the quintessential moment of it.

How to Hold a Bowling Ball Properly?

Learning how to hold a bowling ball is the first step towards being a successful bowler, and the most common way to get started is learning the conventional grip. After this, you can now find the ideal w eight that will comfortably allow you to either throw straight or hook.

A typical bowling ball has three holes; two side-by-side, and the third below the two. You want to place the middle and ring fingers in the two on the side, and then your thumb in the other one that is below them. This grip not only reduces the likelihood of accidents, but it also stabilizes the ball. You will have lots of control on it. You want to have the fingers as deep as they can go – preferably to the second knuckle joint of each finger – especially when you are a beginner.

How do you know the ball is the right fit? You will fell the grip when you insert your fingers. You do not want them too loose or too tight, as that would be uncomfortable. If you have your ball made for you, then you will have even better control as the holes will be drilled to fit perfectly.

Throwing the Ball

Some newbie bowlers hold the ball with their fingers – as they have gripped it – and then head off to throw. Well, this could strain the fingers as most bowling balls are heavy, and so you want to cradle it with your free hand as you get ready to throw. This boost takes pressure off the fingers and stabilizes you before you throw. Will do!On it nowAny deadline?

When releasing the ball, it is advisable to let the thumb go a split second before the rest of the fingers for the perfect motion. Your grip should not be too tight as it will prevent you from having the ideal throw if it is. The ball should slid easily off your fingers. It may be a little hard to master if you are a novice, but you will develop your technique over time.

How to Find the Ideal Bowling Ball for you?

After you have gotten your grip right, you now want to know how to find the right bowling ball for you as it will dramatically change your game. Two of the main things to look out for are weight and coverstock.

  • Weight of the Ball

You best weight is the one you can handle comfortably, and so the basic rule is to go for 10% of your body weight. The heaviest in the house usually weighs 16lbs, and it is what many pros use. You don’t have to start that heavy if you are a beginner as you can work your way up later in your game. 10% your body weight is sufficient for starters.

  • Coverstock

If you are having a bowling ball custom-made for you, then you want to consider its outer material which determines the way it rolls on the surface. There are usually three types; polyester – basically plastic, urethane, and reactive resin. Plastic covers the cheapest of the lot and so almost every house ball is made out of this, but they are mostly ideal for throwing straight. Reactive resin and urethane are costlier, but they also have good hook potential.

Dou you need a Custom-made Ball to get the Right Grip?

While your own ball would be ideal as the holes are cut to fit your fingers perfectly, you can always work with a house ball. As you perfect your skills and maybe decide to do this on a regular basis, then you can then have one made to fit perfectly.

Red Sox-Rays Series Recap, Notes, and Observations

The Boston Red Sox had momentum coming into this series after taking three of four from the New York Yankees. They were a half game behind the Rays in the American League Wild Card standings. After the series concluded, the Red Sox find themselves three and a half behind as the Rays swept them at Fenway Park. Although the results aren’t what the Red Sox want, there were positives to take away. Here are the important tidbits of what you need to know about the most recent Red Sox and Rays series!

Game 1: Rays 6 Red Sox 5

The first game of this series felt like a win. It was a back and forth game that brought good at bats, good battles, and puzzling pitching moves. The Red Sox were down 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning. In a surprise move, Rays manager Kevin Cash decided to pull starter Charlie Morton for a lefty reliever to face Andrew Benintendi. The center fielder hit a two run homerun to left field to put the Red Sox back on top.The lead wouldn’t last long, as Colten Brewer came on and gave the lead right back in the top of the sixth inning. The Red Sox would ultimately lose 6-5. Benintendi and Rafael Devers both had three hits apiece in this one to pace the offense. Sam Travis also had a nice little game for himself, going 2-2 at the plate. The Red Sox saw action from seven of their pitchers in the narrow defeat as well.

Game 2: Rays 8 Red Sox 5

In game two, the Rays came out and attacked the Red Sox early and often. The Rays offense scored five runs off of Rick Porcello to cruise to an easy win. Although the game never felt as close as the score indicated, there were still Red Sox players who performed well. Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez led the way on offense, getting three hits a piece while knocking in two runs. Sam Travis had another two hit game, and Michael Chavis went two for four in this one with an RBI as well. Josh Taylor and Marcus Walden pitched well in the last two innings for the Red Sox, combining for no walks and five strikeouts.

Game 3: Rays 9 Red Sox 4

Another day, another rough game for the Red Sox. Andrew Cashner started and continued to struggle. At the plate, Xander Bogaerts was four for four on the day with two homeruns. Andrew Benintendi also stayed hot at the plate with three hits. All in all, this was just a tough way to end the series for the Red Sox, as the Rays completed the sweep.

In Conclusion

This isn’t the desired result wanted, but it’s on to the Bronx. Hopefully, the Red Sox pick it up a little pitching wise and can take at least the last two from the Yankees. If this Red Sox team wants to make a push for the playoffs, they have to get going right now. Not in a month, not in a week, they have to start playing consistently right now. Let’s see how this team responds in the second game tonight!

Why the Celtics need to trade Daniel Theis

In today’s NBA, every team is constantly looking for ways to improve their roster. Sometimes that means trading away a quality player in a position of surplus. The Celtics look to have four centers on their roster: Enes Kanter, Robert Williams, Vincent Poirier, and Daniel Theis. With a need for cap flexibility, and only so many minutes, someone has to go. Daniel Theis, sadly, fits this profile. Here’s why:

via celticswire.com

Size and Skillset

Daniel Theis stands at 6’8″ and has primarily provided the Celtics with solid bench scoring. Both Kanter and Poirier can also do that. The only difference is each stands two + inches taller than Theis. Unlike Robert Williams, Theis has little defensive upside on the floor. He also has had struggles rebounding (attributed to his size), while all three others are above-average rebounders. Daniel Theis seems to be getting squeezed out due to his smaller skillset in a Celtics system that favors versatility.

Contract Complications

The Celtics re-signed Daniel Theis to a two-year, $10 million contract. He is 27 years old, and will be 29 when he hits free agency. With the team hitting a youth movement, his contract is interesting. The team consists of young guys, long-term vets, and some minimum contracts. Theis has a trade friendly conract that’s easy to move, which bodes poorly for him.

via celticsblog.com

Net value to gain

What Theis does have going for him is that his skillset is very valuable to a title contender. Teams like Golden State, Utah and Houston would love to have a bench scoring big man to help improve their reserves. Those teams also are willing to give up draft capital in order to acquire his services. The Celtics can get more young assets to add while getting cap flexibility. Theis gets more minutes and a chance to play for a ring. A Theis trade would be a win-win for all.

Yankees and Twins Played One of the Best Baseball Games Ever

How often do you watch a sports match and think Wow, this is the greatest game ever!? Not that often probably. Sometimes, the greatest games are not perceived as such during the match, but afterward, when we have an opportunity to take a look at the statistics.

You see, everything in sports nowadays is quantifiable, including things such as ball speed, player speed, number of miles run, and more. Last year, the last game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Rams was considered the best NFL game ever to take place during the regular season.

MLB History Was Created

However, their achievement seems invalid, as the New York Yankees and Minnesota Twins managed to give us an even better game statistics-wise, despite the fact that it is a completely different sport.

If you read the latest baseball news, you probably saw that many sports journalists praise it as the best regular-season game ever in the history of MLB. Some dare say it is the best game ever.

The game took place on Tuesday, July 23 and it included a total of 10 innings. Moreover, scoreboard changed a total of 17 times, and six home runs took place during the game. Finally, there were 11 total hitters and 14 pitches were used. In the end, it was the Yankees who won the game with 14-12, but all baseball lovers believe it is safe to say that both teams were victorious in that game. You can watch the whole game if you have the TV connection which you can get from here.

Both Yankees and Twins gave their best. Some say it was destiny and that every single player had a lot of luck during the game. However, the majority believes it was determination, hard work, and undeniable effort to win the game that made history a couple of days ago.

Spectacular is perhaps the best word to describe the game, as it did not only start with a couple of spectacular plays but also ended in the same manner. We still haven’t consulted the Guinness World Records books but we firmly believe some of the stats made it there.

All Players Were Heroes

Baseball is not an individual sport, so it would be unfair to name just one or two players as match heroes. In fact, all players from both teams did their best to win, and they all deserve a long round of applause. However, according to statistics, some names did pop up, and they are definitely worth remembering.

Jorge Polanco and Miguel Sano have been better than ever, but Aaron Hicks and Didi Gregorius on the other side also made their team and fans proud. In fact, Didi made some records that were previously made only by Joe DiMaggio and Lou Gehrig for the Yankees. He managed to have multiple four-hit sever-RBI games after playing the game with the Twins.

Also, another player worth mentioning is Trea Turner who has been doing pretty well after his recovery from an injury. Apart from collecting a total of 21 stolen bases, he also managed to surprise everyone on July 23. He managed to hit a home run, single, and triple, all of which happened before the fifth inning ended.

When it comes to baseball, many professional journalists and sports lovers have been reserved, believing that the sport failed to market itself well lately. However, the game between the Yankees and the Twins is a reason good enough to take baseball back on the pedestal of American sports. Games like that don’t happen often, but when they do, they create stories that are going to be remembered for generations to come.

UNDERSTANDING THE BETTING PHENOMENON

Betting is a form of gambling. It has been with us since the ages of our forefathers. Fast track to 2019, betting has become one of the fastest growing businesses of all times. It is a booming venture that brings in billions of dollars annually.

A multitude of lads enjoys betting. These are people who place bets on a more frequent basis. These are people that live and breathe gambling. They are conversant with everything that involves betting, including bookiesfc.com , a site where they can easily gain access to the latest betting offers.

Another type is the occasional ones who indulge in this adrenaline rushing activity once in a while. They will visit a casino or place bets on big sporting events not so often.

There is another breed of people that believe betting is just a waste of time and money. They do not comprehend the phenomenon behind risking their whole livelihood for a stake. Instead, they would opt to invest the money in something else of importance to them.

Different people have different opinions on betting. Some people are unbothered by the uncertainties surrounding betting. Others will not hear of it. Therefore, it is for you to sit down and decide if this sporting activity is for you or not.

On that note, below are some of the pros and cons of betting as a whole.

PROS OF BETTING

  • The ease at which you can get started: It is pretty easy to start betting. It does not require any set of skills. There are however a few basic tips you will have to be conversant with as a beginner but nothing over the top. Over time, when you decide to get into frequent betting, you will have to step up and do quite a bit of research on the sport, in order to have a clear understanding of what is involved.

There are also people that will venture into betting as a by the way. What this means is, they are awarded promotional items that offer free bets. These free bets are offered by bookmakers to attract you into betting with them.

Other such free bets are the ones we call risk-free bet promotions. These are the kind of free bets that are offered by sports-books. They are fairly uncommon but one such example is a mybookie promotionnal code.

  • The possibility of a win: This can easily be rated among the best reasons why people venture into betting. The thought of becoming an overnight millionaire or the mere possibility of doubling up on their invested wager is enough to get them running to the bank.

The beauty of gambling is that you do not need to have a master’s degree in economics or be a financial expert. You just have to be lucky.

That is the sole reason why a beginner will quickly try their luck because there is no stipulated formula in which the odds are going to fall. They can place their wagers for the first time and acquire winnings.

There are also games like poker where the players’ skill level is at a high. These players will engage in such sports betting their way into casinos because they believe they will win with ease.

  • It is diverse: Not many people understand the diversity of betting. Betting is not only restricted to sports and casino games but a whole load of other activities like poker and blackjack.
  • It is exciting, fun and entertaining: A lot of players, who engage in betting, do it for the fun of it. Just like others enjoy activities like swimming and playing football, they enjoy placing bets on sporting events.

Another thing is that, when placing wagers on a specific game or sport, it makes the game more exciting to watch. No matter how ‘insignificant’ the match is, the fact that there will be financial implications at the end of the match is enough to get them super excited.

CONS OF BETTING

Unfortunately, there is another side of the coin. Betting has some disadvantages that cannot be downplayed. Below is a list of some of the disadvantages of betting.

  • The possibility of a loss: Most people will agree to have lost money at some point while betting. Some people believe that the chances of winning depend on the skill level and determination of the players. This is not accurate because we have seen instances where a renowned team is beaten by a ‘small’ team.
  • It is virtually impossible to win every time: As much as we would want to be on the winning side, it is impossible to always record a win. One day you hit the jackpot, the next you realize lady luck was not on your side. Surprisingly, most people who bet know this and are prepared to lose.
  • It is addictive: This is by far the worst and most dangerous thing about betting. It is the core reason why most people would disapprove of it. It all starts with an occasional bet and then consistency starts to breed in. Before you realize it, you are in too deep.

Betting addiction does have some severe consequences. Some people go ahead to gamble with everything putting their lives and those of their families at risk. This, in turn, can cause stress, depression and even suicidal tendencies. From time to time we have heard of people who have jumped over the ledge just because their favorite team, the one they had bet on, lost. This is a fairly lesser percentage but the fact remains that betting can lead to addiction.

  • It is disapproved my many: A lot of people disapprove of betting. It is surely not anyone’s business how you decide to use your money but some disapproval may hurt. This is especially true in cases where the one betting is in a close relationship with the person disapproving of the practice.

Keeping in mind the above tips, it is up to you to decide whether or not betting is an activity you would want to pursue. One advice I would like to give is, in case you decide to jump aboard, make sure you are betting on sporting events you are knowledgeable about. If not, make sure you do extensive research and put in the hard work. This will ensure minimal losses and make it a fun pastime activity. Happy betting!
