Game Preview: Bruins vs Rangers

It’s been a busy few games for the Boston Bruins as they clinched a Playoff berth, Captain Zdeno Chara scored his 200th career NHL goal. and Patrice Bergeron set a new career high when he tallied his 75th point of the season during  their 5-4 loss against Tampa Bay. Despite the recent loss where the Bruins blew a 2 goal lead, the boys will be looking to get back into gear as they fight for home ice advantage in the first round of the Playoffs.

SOME UPDATES

It was announced that Torey Krug and Marcus Johansson will be returning tonight as the Boston Bruins face the New York Rangers on home ice. Matt Grzelcyk and Kevan Miller are “probable for the weekend.” Defenseman John Moore is week-to-week with an upper body injury. Moore left the Tampa Bay game and was seen wearing an arm sling.  Expect Jaroslav Halak (20-10-4) in net tonight. He comes into tonight’s game with a 2.31 goals against average, and a .924 save percentage.

The Bruins are 10-5 in their last 15 games. Brad Marchand still leads the team with 94 points, and in goals (34). He also leads the team in assists with 60 (so far). David Pastrnak is now second to Marchand in goals with 33.  The top BMP line have netted over 30 goals each. The team is now five points ahead of Toronto with a 46-21-9 record.

THE BLUESHIRTS ARE COMING!

The Rangers are coming off a 5-2 loss against the Pittsburgh Penguins and will be looking to complete their sweep of the Bruins. Boston has not lost on home ice since January 31st and if they beat the Rangers tonight, it would be their 12th straight victory at home.

Ranger’s Mika Zibanejad has 10 points in is last 12 games versus the B’s. The blueshirts are 9-1 in their last 10 games against the Bruins.  Expect Henrik Lundqvist  in net, who has won all three games (so far) this season when facing Boston. He has an 18-20-10 record wit a 2.99 goals against average with a .909 save percentage.

QUICK STATS

Zibanejad leads the team in points (68), goals (28) and in assists (40). Chris Kreider is not too far off with 26 goals and 49 assists . Both Kreider and Marc Staal are considered day-to day as they recover from lower-body injuries. The Rangers are currently out of the Playoff picture as they are seventh in the Metro Division with a 29-33-13 record.

Game Preview: Boston Bruins vs Arizona Coyotes

The Boston Bruins return home to the TD Garden to face the Arizona Coyotes after winning back to back games.  The Bruins are now 16-10 while the Coyotes are 13-13.  They currently sit near the bottom of the Pacific Division in the Western Conference.  Boston is in fourth, holding on to first place in the wild card race in the Atlantic Division.  The Bruins welcomed back Charlie McAvoy for the game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, where Boston flexed their muscle to win 6-3.  In the game against the Leafs the Bruins would see goals from six different players.  Jarolslav Halak made 29 saves in net, while defenseman Torey Krug scored his 1st goal of the season.

BACK TO BACK

Less than 24 hours later, the Bruins traveled to Ottawa as they faced the Senators for the third time this season.  The Senators opened up the game when Mark Stone scored, putting Ottawa up 1-0.  Bruins’ Brad Marchand, however, would answer back in the second, when he scored at 7:49 off a rebound on a power play, making it 1-1.  Marchand, for his part, would have a season high nine shots.  As the game headed into overtime, it would be defenseman Torey Krug who would come out the victor as he scored at 3:07, scoring the 2-1 win over the Ottawa Senators.  David Pastrnak leads the team with 35 points, with Brad Marchand second with 29 points.  Pasta is currently fourth in the league with goals (20).

ARIZONA

With tonight’s game, Arizona will start their four-game road trip as travel to face the Bruins.  The ‘Yotes are coming in on a three-game winning streak, and if they win tonight it will be their first four-game winning streak since 2011.  Arizona’s goaltender Darcy Kuemper, who had previously been out eight games due to a lower-body injury, is looking to make his return tonight.  Goalie Antti Raanta is out indefinitely due to a lower-body injury.  Forward/Center Clayton Keller leads the team in points with 20, netting eight goals with 12 assists.  Niklas Hjalmarsson will play his 700th NHL game tonight and is currently leading the ‘Yotes in blocked shots with 56.  Arizona is looking to end a 13 game losing streak against Boston, with their last win against the B’s in the 2010-2011 season.

The last time these two teams met, Bruins goaltender Jaroslav Halak had a great night in net when he made 32 saves and Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson scored his first NHL goal.  Halak is expected in net tonight, however as of this writing this morning’s rush had not been published.

Boston Bruins defeat Toronto Maple Leafs

David Pastrnak Scores Hat Trick; Bruins Defeat Toronto 5-1

After a disappointing loss to Vancouver this past Thursday night, the Bruins put out all the stops last night at the TD Garden. And once again, the first-line lead the night as both Patrice Bergeron and David Pastrnak dazzled with goals and assists. The 22-year-old Pastrnak would score his third career hat trick. Bruins goaltender Jaroslav Halak also had quite the night with a stellar comeback, making an incredible 40 saves. The Bruins would give Toronto their first loss on the road in seven games. Backup goalie Garrett Sparks was in net for the Leafs.

GETTING IN THE GROOVE

In the first 15 minutes, the Toronto Maple Leafs came out blazing and put Halak to the test hitting the net with a flurry of pucks. The Leafs kept the B’s at bay, limiting them to only six shots on goal compared to Toronto’s 20 shots. The 33-year-old Halak kept his demeanor and soon enough Boston was able to find its legs.  Patrice Bergeron got the Bruins on board first when he scored off of a tip-in pass by Pastrnak at 16:12. After the first goal, there was no looking back for the B’s.  With the second period underway, the Bruins kept charging forward and David Pastrnak would score his first goal of the night at 5:46 with a Bergeron and Matt Grzelcyk assist. Toronto’s Martin Marincin got a holding penalty in the second that lead to a Boston power play goal: Pastrnak would score off a wrister with both Brad Marchand and Bergeron notching assists. However, the Maple Leafs tried to make a comeback and with a few seconds left to the second period, John Tavares would score the only goal of the night for Toronto.

FINAL BREAKDOWN

Heading into the third, Boston led Toronto 3-1. With about 8:32 left in the third, the Leaf’s Kasperi Kapanen would be in the penalty box, charged with a double minor for high-sticking on Bruins  John Moore. The Maple Leafs were shorthanded for four minutes and Boston took full advantage. In his second hat-trick of the season, David Pastrnak would score another power-play goal with the assist by Marchand and Torey Krug. Within seconds, Boston’s Joakim Nordstrom would score off a wrister making the final score 5-1.  As for Boston, who have been without a few key players, Providence players were called up: Dan Vlader (Goaltender) and Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson (Center). Karlsson has 11:19 minutes on ice. Pastrnak now leads the league in goals with 15; Bergeron is tied for first in the league and the team with points (24). Halak is second in the league for GAA (Goals Against Average) with a 1.86. He is also third in the league with regards to Save Percentage at .942. Toronto had 41 shots on goal, while the Bruins had 34 shots.

NEXT GAME UP

The Bruins will again be on the ice tonight at the TD Garden as they host the Las Vegas Golden Knights, who are coming off a 5-4 loss against the Montreal Canadiens last night.  For the Knights, tonight will be the last game of a four-game road trip against an Atlantic Divison team. Both Jonathan Marchessault and Max Pacioretty are players to keep an eye on. William Karlsson is also having a good start to the season as he is second behind Marchessault in team points. Vegas is seventh in their division with a 7-9-1 record, while the Bruins are fourth in their division with a 9-5-2 record.

Boston Bruins

Game Preview: Boston Bruins vs. Vancouver Canucks

The Boston Bruins host the Vancouver Canucks tonight at TD Garden with puck drop at 7:00 pm.  The B’s are looking to start a win streak as they’re coming off a 2-1  victory against the Dallas Stars. In a good solid effort, the Bruins held off the Stars that forced an overtime with Brad Marchand scoring the winning goal. Tonight’s game marks the second of four games being played in Boston. The team will be looking to win some points these next few games and bring some good momentum before they begin a long road trip starting next week in Colorado. So far, the Bruins are 3-3-3 on the road and 5-1 at home.

Vancouver is currently tied for first place in the Pacific Division posting a record of 9-6-1.  19-year-old forward Elias Pettersson leads the team with 16 points and has 10 goals in 10 games.  Center Bo Horvat isn’t far behind with 11 points in 16 games, netting seven goals.  Pettersson has recently been named NHL’s Second Star of the Week as he continues to shine for the Canucks. Vancouver will be looking to recover from a 3-2 loss against the Detroit Red Wings, which snapped their four-game winning streak. Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy is hoping for another win as the team lost the first of two meetings against Vancouver.

Cassidy also confirmed that backup goalie Jaroslav Halak will start in net tonight against the Canucks. The Bruins first line continues to dominate as Patrice Bergeron leads the team in points (20), David Pastrnak with 17 points while Brad Marchand has 16 points. Rookie Urho Vaakanainen skated Wednesday as he still recovering from a concussion he sustained a few weeks ago in Ottawa. Cassidy was asked during press about a possible return date for Vaakanainen:

“I don’t have the timeline yet. This is part of his process to get back in the lineup, skating. Hopefully, he’ll join us soon…Friday will be a good measuring stick, if he gets back with us, then he’ll be a lot closer. Just happy he was out there”

In other injury news, Kevin Miller was also skating Wednesday before practice since suffering a hand injury. No current update on defenseman Charlie McAvoy‘s return. For Wednesday practice here were the lines:

Boston Bruins vs Carolina Hurricanes

GAME PREVIEW: Boston Bruins vs Carolina Hurricanes

The Boston Bruins are looking to bounce back as they face the Carolina Hurricanes tonight at the PNC Arena. Boston is coming off a shut-out loss to Montreal. Coach Bruce Cassidy noted that Krug “practiced in full” and will be ready for tonight. With the news that defenseman Torey Krug will be back in the lineup, Boston will also be adding another player to the injury list.

Krug has been out for a month after an ankle injury he sustained in a preseason game against the Philadelphia Flyers. With Krug in, expect Steven Kampfer to possibly be out of the lineup.

Matt Grzelcyk will be out to night as he sustained a lower-body injury. He did not skate Monday morning. Both Jeremy Lauzon and Colby Cave were recalled from Providence on an emergency basis. Cave currently leads Providence with 10 points: five goals with five assists. Charlie McAvoy skated on Friday but did not skate Monday. David Backes continues to practice and skated in full-contact, however he won’t be playing tonight. He is expecting, hopefully, to play against Nashville this coming Saturday.

THE ‘CANES

Carolina are second in the Metropolitan Division with a 6-4-1 record. They currently sit behind the Pittsburgh Penguins. The team had a recent game loss against the New York Islanders 2-1 after a two-game winning streak at home.  They will be looking to end their three-game home-stand on a high-note. Center Sebastian Aho has 11 assists in 10 games with four goals. He also leads the team in points (16).  The ‘Canes currently lead the NHL in shots per game. The last time the Bruins were at the PNC they were behind Carolina 4-1, however made a thrilling comeback and beat the Hurricanes 6-4. David Pastrnak scored three goals in his first ever career hat-trick.

BOSTON

The Bruins are currently in fourth place in the Atlantic Division with a 6-3-2 record. The first line is still the most productive line as both Patrice Bergeron and David Pastrnak lead the team in points. Brad Marchand leads the team in assist (11) while Pastrnak leads with 10 goals. Goaltender Jaroslav Halak will start in net.  The Slovak-native is coming off a recent shut-out win against the Philadelphia Flyers.
