One of the genius moves Dave Dombrowski made at the trade deadline was to acquire more starter pitching depth. And that he did. Nathan Eovaldi has been an overall very solid addition to this Red Sox pitching staff. At the time he was traded to Boston, he had a 4.26 ERA. The MLB trade deadline finally came to a close, but not before many moves were made. Sellers like the Orioles, Marlins, and Rays all cleaned house. Buyers such as the Dodgers, Braves, and Diamondbacks also made some key moves. As far as the Red Sox go, I’m here to explain what exactly they did and didn’t do, and what this means going forward. Zach Britton was a name rumored among many teams within the last few weeks. Britton  had arguably the greatest season ever by a reliever just a couple years ago. Its no secret why a team in the pennant race would want to snatch this guy. There are a lot of names being thrown around in trade rumors for the Red Sox. Some are more legit than others. Zach Britton has been a name being mentioned around many MLB clubs. This Red Sox bullpen becomes more worrisome by the day. Joe Kelly, who is supposed to be one of the more reliable guys, now has an ERA near 4.0. The Red Sox rotation is among the many great things about this 2018 squad. Chris Sale has been great. Porcello has done a great job as well. The 2018 Red Sox are at the top of Major League Baseball in a number of things. Batting average, on base percentage, slugging, ERA, FIP, strikeouts- you name it. They’ve been strong in all parts of the game and haven’t had many flaws. There’s always room for improvement, however. Rafael Devers has not been what the Red Sox had hoped this year. He’s hitting in the low .200s, not getting on base much, and the power has been average. His defense? Not good at all. We weren’t exactly sure what we were going to get from Steven Wright’s return in the rotation on Tuesday night. He pitched well out of the bullpen prior, but starting a game out of the rotation is a totally different scenario. Steven Wright’s start wasn’t originally going to happen. Drew Pomeranz, the man who was traded to Boston from the Padres, has been iffy at times. When he came up in his first year, he wasn’t that good. At least with the Red Sox, he wasn’t. After posting an All-Star first half that included a 2.47 ERA, he threw 68.2 innings with an ERA of 4.59 once joining the Red Sox. He was great in 2017, posting a 3.32 ERA in 173.2 innings.
