After a long preseason, the Revs have finally signed DeJuan Jones. Jones spent the last four years at Michigan State playing forward. The Revs took him 11th overall in the SuperDraft. Jones is coming off a great year at Michigan State. In 2018 he had 5 goals and 5 assists in 23 starts. Although Jones did get drafted as a forward, he has recently begun a transition to play more as a right back. This came up due to the recent injury Andrew Farrell sustained in preseason. As Jones said, “I am not exclusively a right back. With the injury to Farrel in preseason the team needed depth at the right back position.”
Jones grew up in Lansing, Michigan, just minutes away from where he would eventually play in college. He’s been playing soccer since the young age of 5 years old. Jones to this day still considers his parents his biggest mentors. As a winger/forward, Jones likes to try and adopt a lot of different players styles, but mostly models his type of play after Raheem Sterling. Jones had never played Right back before the draft. Despite this, he says he’s always had a defensive mindset. “I have always taken pride in my defending even as an attacking player. Just getting a better understanding of positioning and decision making has been a good learning experience.”
While Jones noted that most of his minutes in the preseason were in attacking wide positions and not at right back, with the injury to Farrell, right back seems like the most probable position to see him on the field as there is a lot of depth at the forward position. But don’t let this take away your opinion of his attacking abilities. Jones came out of the MLS combine with the fastest 30 meter dash and shuttle run times. When on the attack, Jones will always be a threat with his speed.
There is no denying the Patriots are depleted at wide receiver. They only have Julian Edelman signed for 2019, with Josh Gordon a restricted free agent. Assuming Gordon, and at least one of Dorsett, Patterson, or Hogan return, New England will still need another slot receiver.
Previously on BSE, we mentioned some of the potential free agent wideouts New England could target. Veteran slot receiver Golden Tate is one of the most prominent names. The former Lion is one of the premier receivers on the market, and he mentioned on Wednesday he would love the chance to come to Foxboro.
“I would love it, I would love it,’’ he told ProStyle Podcast. “That organization, they have proven to be champions year in and year out. They work hard for sure, but you know where you’re going to be at the end of the season: you’re going to be not only looking at the playoffs, but you’re looking at maybe a first-round bye with this team. You gotta admire that organization, they do things right, they’ve been doing it for a long, long, long time.’’
It has been common knowledge that Tate wants another chance at a ring before he retires. He’s mentioned that he is on the tail end of his career, and is craving another Super Bowl run. A member of the dominant 2013 Seattle squad, he already has one ring to his name. In the past, where have countless veterans gone to win a Super Bowl at the end of their careers? Three guesses.
Tate obviously makes a ton of sense for the Patriots in free agency. He is a proven receiver with playoff experience, filling up the stat sheet for the last three seasons. After a down year in 2018, and being over 30, the price could be right for New England.
The Patriots need another dynamic receiver for Tom Brady, and Tate fits that bill without breaking the bank. If the feeling is mutual between the two parties, there is a very real possibility this comes to fruition.
It also helps that New England boasts the greatest quarterback of all time, which Tate clearly acknowledges. He said this later on in the interview:
“I would definitely love being a part of something like that and catch a few passes from old Tommy Boy,’’ Tate said. “Julian [Edelman] is a buddy of mine, I’m really good buddies with him. I’ve heard good things from Kyle Van Noy, who got traded from Detroit and went there and has just been balling out since. It’s, as I said, a great organization. I definitely would not mind going over there for sure.’’
Tate is the prototypical player the Patriots go after in free agency. He is on the back end of his career, coming off a down season, and is still a productive player. He fills a huge need for the Pats, and has a ton of interest in venturing over to 1 Patriot Place. And after this interview, you can bet Julian Edelman will be recruiting Tate like crazy.
The price should be right for New England, assuming Tate wants a one to two year deal worth around five million a year. When free agency starts on March 14th at 4:00 P.M. est, look out for Golden Tate to potentially be the Patriots marquee signing.

Thursday, February 27th @ 8:30 P.M. – Boston Uprising vs. Seoul Dynasty Sunday, March 3rd @ 3 P.M. – Boston Uprising vs. Toronto Defiant
What a long week for the Boston Uprising. It’s not a typical one when you consider they just became the first team to lose to the Shanghai Dragons. On top of that, many wondered if Fusions could get a full OWL contract negotiated before Thursday’s game. Boston’s schedule isn’t giving them a breather, either. Let’s check in with where this week’s opponents, Seoul and Toronto, are in the standings:
Seoul and Toronto, at 5th and 6th respectively, have been good this season. Additionally, Toronto will be playing former Uprising support Neko on Sunday for the first time all season. Getting shut out this weekend will most likely knock Boston out of the Stage 1 playoffs and force some serious questions about the team. Is there a legitimate cause for concern for Uprising fans?
Good news
Fortunately the Uprising have done a lot to prepare for the two games this weekend. First, they’ve settled the Fusions contract situation:
With the team’s stud young main tank secured and ready to go, one of the main excuses I and many others gave to Boston from Friday won’t be available. Second, the boys will have had another week of scrims, practice, and VOD review to prepare. Third, Colourhex has gotten his first Blizzard Arena match over with and can now settle down going into the week. Also, the GOATS meta has made parity across the league the rule rather than the exception. Seoul and Toronto’s records mean nothing. Lastly, if you need a new hype video, the Uprising have you covered:
Taken together, Boston seems to have put the devastating loss against the Dragons behind them. They know what they need to work on (counter Sombra), where they’re good (Fusion’s shot calling) and where they’re going (big matches against Seoul and Toronto). What are their chances? Let’s break down the matches.
Boston Uprising vs. Seoul Dynasty
One of the questions the Uprising need to answer right away is who will play Lucio. Kellex was put in last Friday in place of Alemao and it’s anyone’s guess who will get the call Thursday. We saw at the end of the match against Shanghai that the supports became the key to countering Sombra. Kellex made several great plays wall riding around the team, dropping in after the EMP hit, and hitting his Sound Barrier. Blasé got a few nice stuns on Sombra to stop the ultimate hitting. It will be key for Boston to use this and other strategies to counter Sombra.
Match Preview
As a matter of fact, the Sombra fight will be the focus of this match. Both Sang-beom “Munchkin” Byun and Min-hyuk “Michelle” Choi of the Dynasty played Sombra more than competently in their last match against Chengdu. They are a big part of why Seoul had a clean 4-0 that night. I would expect to see a lot of Sombra this match, as it has been the thorn in Boston’s side all season. And the whole league knows it.
Thursday’s match will be played on Nepal, Numbani, Temple of Anubis, and Route 66
Then again, this is the same Seoul that lost to the 2-2 Dallas Fuel. Three weeks into the season, there have been very few teams able to distinguish themselves from the pack. Minus the loss-less NYXL, Vancouver Titans, or Paris Eternal, all teams are down in the mud with each other slugging it out for relevance. Still operating under a small sample size, we’re not yet able to tell where any of these teams are. After watching the hype video, you have to believe that Boston is focusing on the Sombra counters. If they are to stand any chance, they can’t keep getting hit with the 5 or 6 player EMPs.
Also – do we see some crazy comps come out again? Note’s turn on Reaper was one of the most unique team comps we saw league-wide last week. That type of boldness to counter the meta means you never know exactly what Boston will do. Huk likely has something cooking in his lab that his team will deploy. There’ll be some map or stage-specific scenario where I expect us to see an atypical hero get some play time. Here’s hoping it’s Soldier or Symmetra!
Prediction
Strap yourselves in Uprising fans, we’ve got us a slobber-knocker! I just don’t see Boston falling for the EMP for a third week straight. Assistant Coach Gunba and all the players mentioned Sombra in the hype video. The team is too focused to fall prey to it again. Maybe they change up the team comp, or just spread out more. Perhaps they swap in the Moira to hang back and toss Biotic Orbs out after the EMP drops. Kellex runs laps around wall riding as Lucio with his ultimate ready to launch. Who knows. I just don’t see them doing the same against a hero they know they’ll be seeing plenty of.
Losing to Shanghai had to have put a chip on Boston’s shoulder. Scratch that. A whole damn bag of Doritos strewn over all their heads. These guys must be itching for their chance at redemption. With Fusions back in the lineup, the British rookie has given us no reason not to believe in him. Taken together, I expect a close match, maybe stretching out to five maps. But in the end, I give the edge to Boston.
Boston Uprising vs. Toronto Defiant
After last week’s drama surrounding the matchup against our former captain and main tank Gamsu, Boston finds themselves playing against another former player. Neko, an obscure and unknown player when Boston picked him up, joined Toronto in the offseason after a successful rookie campaign. As mentioned earlier, this will be his first game of the season after serving a three game suspension for selling an account and obstructing an investigation. Last year, Neko made a name for himself for being the under appreciated Zenyatta of the league. He may not be NYXL’s regular season MVP JJonak, but the South Korean could make his presence felt. Given that the Defiant barely squeezed by with a 2-1 victory against the winless LA Valiant last week, the team and Neko come into the match with plenty to prove.
Match Preview
Just as Boston has had growing pains this season by incorporating new players, Toronto will get a taste of the transition game in this match. Can Neko come in as a starter and set the tone for the team? All eyes will be on his Zen and ability to gel with his teammates. If he’s anything like other former Uprising players Gamsu and Striker, who have each flourished on new teams, Boston will have their hands full.
Of course Toronto has their own fleet of competent Sombra players they’re likely to deploy. Besides Neko, both Kang-Jae “Envy” Lee and Do-hyung “Stellar” Lee both have seen playing time as Sombra this season. If Boston doesn’t figure out the counter strat for Sombra against Seoul, they’re in for a long match against Toronto.
Sunday’s match will be played on Busan, Hollywood, Temple of Anubis, and Rialto
Don’t sleep on seeing Colourhex pull out a non-GOATs DPS. Hollywood and Point A on Anubis have all seen some DPS usage. Do we get a Phar-Mercy, Bastion, Hanzo, or Junkrat? Not outside of the realm of possibility. Or maybe we just get more GOATs than we ever wanted.
Prediction
I watched the Atlanta and Toronto match last week. One of the only matches I’ve seen without Boston. What a match that was – two teams that could coordinate, make counter picks, manage ult economy, and get picks. After seeing that, I started to believe in this Toronto team. Selfishly, I’d like to see Neko drop egg on his face here, but I don’t see that either. Unfortunately, I think this is where Boston stumbles. Hopefully, like the NYXL match, the Uprising show up and push Toronto to the limit. While I don’t expect Boston to win this one, I do hope we’ll see a close match. Another possible 5th map match that reminds everyone across the league that Boston is a legitimate contender. And forget about that loss last week to Shanghai.
Outlook
Boston has two tough matches this week. After setting the league on fire after week 1, Boston hit as big a road bump as anyone could week 2. If they’re going to make stage 1 playoffs, there is no time like the present to make a push. Even more important, the Uprising need to show exactly what type of team they are. If they want to show that the Shanghai match was a fluke, they have a golden opportunity to do it now. Are middle of the road teams like the Dynasty and Defiant going to be the ones to put them away? Or can they take care of business and put the league back on notice? Here’s hoping we don’t look like Fusions when he saw us loose to Shanghai:
Same season. Same goal. PROVE. THEM. WRONG.

Jackie Bradley has shown up to spring training with a new swing. After an offseason working with swing guru Craig Wollenbrock, Bradley might be poised for a breakout season. Yes, it’s only spring training, but Bradley showed off his new swing with a home run in his first at-bat.
JD Martinez Helps Out
JD Martinez has been a godsend in more ways than one. Not only did he rake to the tune of a .330/.402/.629 batting line last year, but he has been helping other players with their swings. Multiple times last season he noticed something in a players swing and helped them work on it. Jackie Bradley was one of these players.
A couple months into the season, Martinez helped Bradley with his swing. Bradley was really struggling, hovering around a .200 batting average in the first half. Martinez then invited Bradley to work with his swing coach, Craig Wollenbrock, over the all-star break.
Bradley’s offense picked up over the second half of the season. He credited JD Martinez with his success for helping him tinker with his swing. In the second half, Bradley batted .269 with seven home runs and an .827 OPS. The numbers are solid, but compared to what they were they look great.
2019
Bradley made clear improvements last season after having his swing tinkered with. Now, with an entire offseason of working on that swing, the results have the potential to be even more dramatic. Bradley seems to have bought into the new approach, which former Red Sox prospect Lars Anderson said was necessary for success. Anderson himself had tried the program, but didn’t give it his all.
Bradley isn’t devoid of talent, he was after all a first round draft pick. He then batted over .300 in his first full professional season. Bradley rose through the system quickly, maybe too quickly for his own good. He did hit 26 home runs in 2016 while posting an .835 OPS, before tailing off these past two seasons.
I think with these new adjustments he can hit more like he did in 2016. I know right now that season is the anomaly, but Bradley showed some improvements in the second half and the postseason last year, and with his new swing things are looking up.
TAX REPAYMENT CAN BE INVESTMENT DECISION IN YOUR BRAND-NEW CAREER
Income tax return time is with us has arrived with the typical tax return for locals of each status totaling at the least $2, 254, according to Small business Insider. That quantity more than covers the cost of picking out to become a qualified educator by way of American Board’s program.
The choice to invest just one year’s taxes refund can easily greatly alter someone’s living, job satisfaction and vocation. Teachers authorized by the United states Board could earn the normal salary starting from $41, 814 in Mississippi to $62, 994 in Pennsylvania, depending on the National Education Association. The Fusions situation has hung over the Uprising all week. Would the upstart rookie get his contract solved before Thursday’s match? Enter Christopher “Huk” Lorringer, President of Gaming for the Boston Uprising. With the news that Fusions would be good to go for Thursday, someone had to alert the Seoul Dynasty and Toronto Defiant of what was in store for them this weekend:
I know what you’re thinking: not all heroes wear capes. I agree. Well, with shots fired, would anyone respond?
Ok now we’ve got us gunfight. Well, who’s gonna lay down a killing blow?
Ooof. Huk taking their words and not just making a early naught’s pop culture reference but matching the colors. It actually spun my head on a swivel when I realized the two point diss that Huk dropped in one Tweet. Hmmm. Well – would Toronto respond or just lay down and ask for their belly to get rubbed?
Kawhi Leonard? You pointing to Kawhi Leonard. Well, I couldn’t let the general of the army do all the dirty work. I’m just a foot soldier in this war, but I’ll come in when my number is called.
As of this moment Toronto has gone quiet. An amber alert has been signaled and the missing persons report has been filed. Please keep your eye out for the Defiant. If you see something, say something.
Robert Kraft is the greatest owner in sports. Since he bought the Patriots 25 years ago they’ve had much more success than hardships. But the latest for Kraft hurts the image of himself, not so much the team. Spygate and Deflategate were football things that Kraft wasn’t at fault for. But this will hurt his image a great deal, especially learning he went to the spa on the day of the AFC Championship Game. Kraft allegedly went there on Saturday, January 19th and was pulled over for a traffic stop. He thinks nothing of it and goes back the next day.
The AFC Championship Game was probably one of the greatest postseason wins in Patriots history. Unfortunately, people will remember what happened hours before the game. It’s worse that Kraft went back there on the day of the AFC Championship game when the team was in Kansas City. He’s worth $6.5 billion, he could’ve thought it out more clearly. The best thing to do now is own up to it take what’s coming and move on. He won’t lose the team, but he will probably be looking at a suspension, similar to Jim Irsay of the Colts in the past.
After learning more about what happened Monday it’s hard for Kraft to still deny it. They have him on video and you can’t hide what’s on the video. The video changes everything, just like with other cases we’ve seen around the NFL. This is way different from other videos from NFL players abusing women, but it still hurts Kraft’s image.
Players will stick by Kraft during the case and beyond. They will ignore the noise that comes with it and not change their opinions they have on the owner. Kraft has built an empire in Foxborough, and it has come with negative things but the good outweighs the bad. If the Patriots had lost the AFC Championship game or the Super Bowl this could look worse. Kraft could miss the home opener, which will cause a debate as to whether or not they wait to unveil the Super Bowl Banner when he comes back from suspension.
If you click on over to SBR, and read a Heritage Sports review, you will see why recreational and professional sports bettors always include Heritage as one of their top options when betting sports. But the oddsmakers at Heritage, and other top-notch online books, must be shaking their collective heads when trying to identify an acceptable line on the Boston Celtics. This is a team as enigmatic and mercurial as any in the NBA and Celtics’ fans are feeling the same frustration as those trying to bet with them, or against them.
We see glimmers of hope but then, in a flash, frustration and confusion come to the fore yet again, as it did on Saturday night in Chicago. Boston’s last several games have been a microcosm of the entire season. Talented club with a bona fide superstar, and a few others waiting to blossom, reels off 10 wins in 11 games. After yet another victory, they return home to take on both LA entries within two nights of each other, where the oddsmakers are hanging the Green as double-digit favorites in both contests, and Boston proceeds to lose not one but both. Then, like flicking a light switch, the same team that just laid an egg in consecutive games to inferior opponents travels to Philadelphia to beat one of the preeminent Eastern Conference powers and follows that up with a sound victory over the Pistons.
And despite losing a 98-97 heartbreaker to the Milwaukee Bucks in the following game, we can forgive that road loss against the team with the best record in basketball. But for the luvva gawd what we can’t forgive, or understand, is losing the next game to a team like the Bulls, as 10-point road favorites mind you, contending for the No. 1 pick in the draft by virtue of owning one of the worst records in the league! And to add insult to injury, the Bulls were playing the second leg of back-to-back games, yet the Celtics still bowed 126-116.
Championship caliber teams very rarely fall to the dregs and although they may not cover the number, losing outright is an aberration – a one-off, if that. Even very good teams routinely pad their records against sub .500 clubs like the Bulls, Lakers, Magic, Heat, Suns, et al. Well, not your local entry because Boston has lost to all of those teams which is why their 61.7 winning percentage is good enough to assure them the No. 5 spot in the East but well below preseason expectations. To borrow a term from Kevin Garnett, where’s the grit and balls? Where is the team from last year that took LeBron’s Cavaliers to seven games without Kyrie and Hayward?
Maybe “team” is the operative word. After Saturday night’s loss to the Bulls, Marcus Smart summoned a ray of optimism followed by an expression of the same angst and frustration Celtics’ fans are feeling. “Yeah, we’re good. We’re still in a good position. We’ve got a lot of basketball left. We lost here last year. We got blown out here last year (108-85 in December 2017), and in the end of the season, we were still fighting for everything we wanted to fight for. We still were in the last game of the conference finals. So, this is not the end of the world, but it is embarrassing. It’s embarrassing. Just our effort is embarrassing. How we played is embarrassing.”
When pressed further Smart had this to say, “It’s all simple. It’s just effort. Just effort. That’s definitely it. It’s plain and simple. Just effort…You know, we’ve got all the talent in the world, but you know… I don’t even know what to say. Like, really, I have no words.”
Throughout this season the Bruins have dealt with a tremendous amount of adversity. Before their West Coast swing they suffered arguably their biggest blow as David Pastrnak was ruled out for at least two weeks. In his absence, the Bruins struggling offense has come alive. They have been lead by Jake DeBrusk and Danton Heinen, who have broken out of sophomore slumps. With the trade deadline looming the Bruins young wingers are playing their best hockey yet.
Before their recent hot stretches, Heinen and DeBrusk had been disappointing this season. As the Bruins struggled offensively, the lack of offense from Heinen and DeBrusk was magnified. With the trade deadline looming, their names had been included in many trade rumors. The two young forwards have responded by reminding people why they are both key to this roster.
Last season Heinen was a pleasant surprise as his forty-seven points were the fifth most on the team. He was key in the clutch and had four game-winning goals. Heinen provided support for his line mates as he dished out thirty-one assists. When the Bruins, needed an offensive boost he was there. Heinen, however, was prone to extended slumps which again had been the case this season until recently.
🚨GOAL🚨
Danton Heinen is looking more and more like a top-6 winger each game!
During January the former fourth-round pick only had three points. His offense was non-existent regardless of what line the Bruins placed him on. In February, Heinen has regained his confidence when the Bruins needed it the most. Over Heinen’s last nine games, he has three goals and five assists. Since being placed on the Bruins top line Heinen, has been a different player.
DeBrusk’s Hot Stretch
The same can be said for Jake DeBrusk who has been dominant since Pastrnak went down with an injury. In 11 games this month the former first-round pick has five goals and six assists. He scored in five straight games, after scoring only three times in January. After an inconsistent start, DeBrusk has been the dynamic playmaker he was expected to be. The success of these two has coincided with the Bruins best stretch of the season.
— Hockey Daily 365 l NHL Highlights & News (@HockeyDaily365) February 21, 2019
Heading into Tuesday’s tilt with San Jose the Bruins will be looking to extend their points streak to fourteen games. This is due to the fact that their secondary scoring, which had been absent, has been on full display. This team is getting contributions from everyone with their top goal scorer sidelined. Their current streak has catapulted them to second place in the Eastern Conference.
As the Bruins make their playoff push, secondary scoring will be key. Having DeBrusk and Heinen at their best will be essential. While this team may still need one more scorer to make a deep run, their young wingers have carried this team of late.
Kyler, the Heisman-winning quarterback from Oklahoma, remains the biggest question of this year’s draft. His future landing spot remains completely unknown. And although Murray will certainly be picked in the first round, the question of when remains to be seen.
Untraditional Quarterback
Murray might be the hardest quarterback some scouts have ever been asked to evaluate.
His decision-making and judgement can be so blatantly wrong at times, yet he will still make a play or get a completion.
He is the farthest from traditional one could find, yet the most successful out of his class.
Kyler Murray holding the Heisman Trophy he won for his phenomenal performance this last season
The Positives of Kyler
The Oklahoma quarterback can only be described as a paradox.
Some parts of his game should make him the undisputed QB1 of the class, yet other parts defiantly scream risk. Murray’s strong suits are listed below:
Fantastic runner, potentially one of the faster QBs to ever enter the NFL
Incredible arm strength
Great touch and anticipation
Ability to extend the play with his feet, evades pass rushers with ease
Quick release
Tremendous poise
Elite physical skills
Has displayed pin-point accuracy on several occasions
Relatively good ball security
Relatively good pre-snap adjustments
The Negatives of Kyler
The issues in his game glaring, just like his strengths. His strengths and weaknesses pop right off the screen.
Kyler’s biggest struggles are listed below:
Untraditional, not sure what offense he could fit into
Sometimes looks confused or lost out on football field, seems unprepared for certain defense schemes at the college level
Only a one year starter
Sloppy mechanics
Overthrown footballs a problem at times
Sometimes relies too much on his legs and playmaking ability, struggles to understand his limits at times
Stares down receivers
Mechanics and attention to detail do not appear strong
Makes some completions that would not happen at a Pro level
High risk and big investment for a Pro team
Durability for a player of his size and potential work load might be a problem at Pro level
Most television personalities are saying that Kyler will be a top ten pick, however, I personally would not take that so seriously.
What makes him such a risk for a pro squad?
The biggest concern out of that whole list for NFL teams will be the “High risk and big investment for a Pro team” point, but not his size. The size argument on him being able to see over his line will be something that will be heard more but will not hold much of a solid argument.
One throw that Kyler consistently impressed on this year was a short shallow cross, which is a difficult throw for shorter quarterbacks.
Kyler’s height will not be the issue for pro teams, however the time, energy, and resources that a team would have to put into a boom or bust product like Kyler are incredible.
Luckily for Murray, more pro teams are starting to adopt some college concepts in their offenses, but that may not be enough.
An offense would have to fully commit to Kyler, and have the resources to build around him. The first mistake for a pro team would be plugging him into an already established offense.
Just throwing Murray into a system of such nature would fail him from the start and basically cripple an extremely bright future.
Kyler + Patriots = Potential disaster
Patriots fans might want Kyler Murray, but he just simply would not work at this time.
Murray’s career being put on hold for Brady would be bad for both the Patriots and Kyler.
The Patriots would be benching one of the faster quarterbacks to ever enter the draft. That speed would only last at that level for so long.
The potential of Murray turning to baseball if put on hold would be very high, which the last thing the Patriots would need is a John Elway-like situation.
Kyler Murray was a first round draft pick for the Oakland Athletics
The Patriots also have too many pressing needs that taking a risk like Murray would be way to dangerous and could cost jobs.
Patriots would not be able to invest in Kyler becuase of Brady’s longevity and while McDaniels could potentially make Kyler work in New England, Brady gets in the way.
Kyler can work for other squads, but not the Patriots
Kyler might slide farther than the TV personalities think due to his high risk and the big investment required.
While Kyler might be a top ten talent, many pro scouts do not know that Kyler is a trendsetter or a game changer.
The boom or bust product out of Oklahoma seems to have a lot of promise, and could potentially get over some of his negatives with the right team and supporting cast. The right team could turn Kyler into a pro bowl caliber quarterback.
Unfortunately for hopeful Patriot fans, your team will likely not be one to swoop in and take on this extremely risky and expensive project.
