BREAKING: Burkhead is Back

Rex Burkhead Is Back

New England Patriots running back Rex Burkhead has been added to the 53 man roster on Monday. Burkhead has been on injured reserve since September 26th, after playing in just three games. He started two of the three games before his injury, rushing 24 times for 86 yards. Burkhead also caught three passes for 31 yards. New England released offensive lineman Matt Tobin, making room for the dual-threat running back.

Burkhead is Back on the 53 man Roster

The Patriots announced the good news a day after the team rushed for 215 yards, as White and Michel both had career highs. The running game has been important this season. The Patriots’ eight wins came with an average of 136 rushing yards per game. New England’s three losses have come with an average of just 70 rushing yards. New England seems to be getting healthy at the perfect time, as Shaq Mason returned to the offensive line, as well as Rob Gronkowski. Both players contribute to the ground game in a huge way, and it showed Sunday in a win over the Jets.

Rex Provides Much Needed Depth

The Patriots came into this season wanting to have a stable of running backs, rotating guys in keeping everyone fresh. Unfortunately, that is not what happened, but now with Sony, Rex and White, the Pats have some depth. The addition of Burkhead will take some of the beating off of Michel, while James White can settle back into his dominant role.

It took a while for Burkhead to recover from his injury.  A great way to help recover and build muscle is with clenbuterol for sale.  It helps add additional muscle bulk and improve strength.

Rex Burkhead is on the roster for Sunday’s game against the Vikings, we will have to wait and see if he gets in the game. Bill Belichick has always preached that the season starts after Thanksgiving. New England is now primed to run the table, and get the 1 seed.

Duel threat out of the backfield

The Patriots now have three versatile hard-nose RBs to play with, along with James Develin at fullback.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, I am thankful for Family, Friends and the Patriots, as I’m sure you feel the same way.

The Greatest Red Sox Legends by Uniform Number: 16-20

This grouping of numbers, 16-20, is the first group of five without a retired number and a hall of famer. However, all five are in the Red Sox Hall of Fame, so it’s not like this group lacks clout.

Number 16 – Jim Lonborg

Lonborg is probably thought of as being better for the Red Sox than he was. However, that’s likely because of his gruesome injury following his incredible 1967 season. Lonborg was the Cy Young Award winner in 1967, winning a league best 22 games for the surprise pennant winners. Lonborg also struck out a league best 246 batters that season. However, he injured his knee in a ski accident that winter and wasn’t the same for the Red Sox afterwards. Over his final four seasons in Boston Lonborg only made 70 starts, going 27-29 with a 4.22 ERA.

Despite being mostly a flash in the pan for the Sox, Lonborg gets the nod at number 16 from me largely on the strength of his helping the Red Sox to the 1967 pennant while winning a Cy Young Award. His competition at the number isn’t too strong, although I anticipate Andrew Benintendi surpassing him in the next season or two.

Honorable Mentions: Andrew Benintendi, Tom Burgmeier, Frank Viola, Rick Miller

Number 17 – Mel Parnell

There is a strong 1-2 for number 17, but one of the best left-handed starters in franchise history to date gets the nod. Parnell pitched for the Red Sox for parts of ten seasons, his career coming to an early close due to injuries. However, for a six year stretch he was one of the best pitchers in baseball.

Parnell broke out with a 15-8 record and 3.14 ERA in 1948. The next season he would have won the Cy Young Award had the award existed at the time. Parnell was 25-7 with a 2.77 ERA over 295.1 innings in 1949. He led the league in innings, wins and ERA that season and finished fourth in the MVP vote. Parnell won 18 games each of the next two seasons. 1953 was his final healthy season, going 21-8 with a 3.06 ERA for a mediocre team.

Over that six year stretch, 1948-53, Parnell was 109-56, an average of 18-9 per season, with a 3.22 ERA. Parnell had some magic left in 1956, throwing a no-hitter against the White Sox. He pitched to a solid 3.77 ERA that season before retiring.

Parnell’s close competition for the number 17 comes from “the Monster”, Dick Radatz. Radatz dominated in relief for the Red Sox for the first three seasons of his career, going 40-21 with a 2.17 ERA and 76 saves. He threw so many innings of relief that he declined quickly though. Parnell, despite a short career, was good for longer than Radatz so he gets the nod in my book.

Honorable Mentions: Dick Radatz, Bret Saberhagen, Nathan Eovaldi, Manny Delcarmen

Number 18 – Frank Sullivan

Sullivan pitched parts of eight seasons with the Red Sox, having a nice six year stretch from 1954-59. During those six peak years, Sullivan was 83-63 with a 3.24 ERA. He posted an ERA below 3.00 in both 1955 and 1957. In 1955, he led the American League with 18 wins and 260 innings pitched. In 1957 he led the league in WHIP.

A mostly forgotten pitcher in team history, Sullivan was a good pitcher on some not so good teams. He made two All-Star Games and deserved to make it in 1957 as well.

Honorable Mentions: Johnny Damon, Reggie Jefferson, Carlos Quintana

Number 19 – Fred Lynn

Despite several postseason heroes wearing the number 19, Fred Lynn is the no-brainer choice. After raking in September of 1974, Fred Lynn became the first player ever to win MVP in his rookie season. That season he made the All-Star Game, won Rookie of the Year, MVP and a Gold Glove Award. Lynn led the league in doubles and OPS while batting .331.

Despite the MVP and leading the league in OPS, Lynn’s best season may have come in 1979. That season, Lynn batted .333/.423/.637/1.039, leading the league in each of those categories. He smashed 39 home runs and 42 doubles while driving in 122 runners. Somehow, Lynn only finished fourth in the MVP vote when he probably should have won it.

During his time in Boston Lynn seemed to be on a Hall of Fame path. He hit .308 with 124 home runs and a .902 OPS over parts of seven seasons. Not only that, Lynn was an excellent center fielder, winning four Gold Gloves while playing for the Red Sox. He also made the All-Star Game in each of his six full seasons in Boston.

Honorable Mentions: Josh Beckett, Koji Uehara, Jackie Bradley Jr, Mickey McDermott

Number 20 – Kevin Youkilis

“Youk” is on the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame ballot this season. Although he won’t achieve the five percent of the vote needed to remain on the ballot, it is pretty cool just to be on it. Youkilis came up through the minors with the Red Sox and spent parts of nine seasons in Boston. He set a record for consecutive errorless games at first base and won the Gold Glove Award in 2007.

In 2008, Youkilis was a legitimate MVP candidate along with teammate Dustin Pedroia. Youkilis batted .312/.390/.569/.958 with 29 home runs, 43 doubles and 115 RBI. He finished third in the MVP vote that season. He followed it up with 27 home runs and a .961 OPS in 2009, finishing sixth in the MVP race. From 2007-10 he batted .303/.400/.530/.931 while playing excellent defense. He is a runaway at the number 20.

What Role Can Dustin Pedroia Still Play?

He’s two years removed from playing a full season and clearly his knee has been an issue. However, Dustin Pedroia still has a lot of skills and traits that can still be useful to this team. He’s still locked up for a fair amount of time. He’s going to make roughly 40 million dollars over the final three years of his contract. Can he still produce at a level that merits having that contract on the books? That is yet to be determined, but first and foremost, Dustin has to get healthy. The now 35-year-old second baseman is fortunate for many reasons. Mainly, with Kinsler departing, he faces almost no competition on the roster for his position. If he can get strong over the winter and be ready for the spring, he’ll have his chance to make an impact for Boston like he did back in 2016 and preceded by various season earlier.

Pedroia’s Achilles Heel

Unfortunately for Pedroia, he just can’t shake the pain in his left knee. Father Time isn’t on his side either, by any means, but the two-year-old knee injury has to be frustrating Dustin. In 2016 he hit .318 with an OPS of .825. Both of these numbers are exceptional, even all-star worthy. Then Manny Machado came along.Image result for machado pedroia gif

The collision between the two in April of 2017 appears to be what initially led to the injury for Pedroia. Machado’s late slide, that he claims as unintentional, took out the left leg of Dustin and frankly he has never been the same since. Pedroia has always been one that has struggled with the injury bug here and there. Nothing has ever compared to this, though.

Playing with the speedy, dirt-dog style that he does, his knees have already been taking a beating over the years. This has the potential to possibly sideline him for a good chunk of another season. Which would be similar to his 2018 where he played in only three games. Even worse, this has the potential to be it for Pedroia, at least with Boston.

Having paid him 16 million dollars last year for basically nothing, and 15 million in 17 for a half season isn’t good business. That equates to roughly 23 million in dead money, plus another 40 still on the Red Sox plate in the future. He’s going to have his chance in 2019 but he has to take it, or he could see himself out a similar door to Hanley Ramirez.

Can He Still Be Effective?

Like I said earlier, his last full season in 2016 was very good. Even in 2017, in limited action, he was a decent ballplayer at .293/.369/.760. IF, which is a big if, he can be ready to go for Opening Day AND stay healthy, the numbers seem like an attainable goal. It’s nothing special, and probably not worth the dollar amount he’s making, but it’s more than they got last year.

With Ian Kinsler highly unlikely to return, the door is wide open for Pedroia to take the reigns back. For him, it’ll be a transition to a different role, one as more of only a team leader and less as a contributor. When he could last year, he was always on the bench. He acted like an assistant coach at times for Alex Cora, something that likely had a huge influence on the team that won the championship.

If he can put up the aforementioned triple slash line from 2017, and continue to evolve into a mentor for the young guys like Rafael Devers and eventually Michael Chavis, he’ll be somewhat worth the money they’re paying him. As far as the team goes, they won 108 games and a World Series this year. Adding Pedroia back into the fold can only be a plus for this Red Sox team, and to me, it’s definitely an upgrade from Kinsler.

Boston versus New York rivalry isn’t the same in football

Boston versus New York doesn’t have the same meaning in football

The Patriots travel to play the Jets on Sunday afternoon. The 7-3 Patriots are coming off a bye week after getting pummeled by the Titans in Tennessee. The history of the Patriots and Jets isn’t the same obviously as the Red Sox and Yankees. For one thing, the Jets aren’t that good of a football team. They can’t seem to get it together and get crushed by the Patriots almost every time they play them. With the Red Sox and Yankees, both teams are good and the rivalry is always intense. Those games are primetime and usually come down to the last minute. With the Patriots and Jets, it’s sometimes not even close and it’s over by the first half.

The Patriots and Jets don’t have hype around the games they play against each other.

Devin McCourty is looking forward to going down there on Sunday saying, “When we go down there, it’s not many Patriots fans in there. If they are in there, you probably don’t want to be too loud in that stadium because the Jets fans will get rowdy. It’s a lot of fun.” The Patriots don’t lose back to back games often and after a bye, they’ll be ready to go. Rob Gronkowski will be back after an extended time off due to injury so he should be ready to go.

The Patriots are 61-54 all-time against the Jets. At MetLife Stadium the Patriots are just 4-3 but again the hype between those two teams isn’t there. Despite the Patriots struggles on the road this season, I really don’t see them losing to the Jets – not with again having extra rest and time to prepare. The only great rivalry between Boston and New York is Red Sox versus Yankees. The other three leagues don’t have the same hype.

How Do You Win on Slot Machines?

Want to win big on slot machines? Here are top 5 tips to help you maximize your chances of winning in any casino or online gambling sites:

Diversify your bets

Casino slot machines are programmed with codes that ensure the jackpots are given away on a rotational basis. While the probability of winning varies for different machines, every machine is bound to give out a jackpot eventually. This is why diversifying your bets on multiple slot machines is a smart idea. You should place small bets on every major game. This way, your chances of winning a jackpot increase and your winnings from one slot can compensate for the bets you placed on other machines.

Identify machines on premium spots

In order to keep the players excited and hopeful for a win, casinos often use certain loose machines that give away more jackpots than others. These slot machines are placed at premium locations like the center of the gambling arena or near the big game tables. The jackpot amount is small on these slots, but the probability of winning is higher. For every winner, more people are motivated to try their luck on various other games and slots which have less probability of winning.

If your objective is to make some money while in the casino, look for the slot machines which are giving out jackpots more frequently than others. Spend more time on these machines and use the winnings to play on other tables.

Play smaller fixed jackpot slots

There are two types of slot machines – fixed jackpot and progressive jackpot. Fixed slots have a defined jackpot, which is rolled out on a random sequencing. Progressive slots, on the other hand, increase their jackpot amount with every player who does not win it. The big money lures more people to gamble, raising the jackpot even higher. This further decreases the winning probability on such machines. Instead, start your time in the casino with fixed jackpot slots where you can get good winnings to enjoy gambling on bigger slots and tables.

Bet high the first time

In order to motivate gamblers to bet more, the casinos often give out big jackpots to serious players on their first bets. This is why gambling experts recommend placing big bets on your first game at any slot machine or table. If you win the round, bet again. If not, try your luck on another slot machine instead of betting on the same slot again and again.

However, betting high does not mean gambling all your money on 2-3 machines only. Plan your maximum spending limit and divide the amount smartly so as to maximize your chances of winning a jackpot.

Look out for casino bonuses

What would be better than free cash to try your luck at slots? Many casinos these days offer no deposit bonuses to new players. While the amount of free cash is usually small, it can be a great start if you know how to multiply it quickly. Look for free spins no deposit no wager bonuses from big top casinos UK to begin playing slots and winning big. The free no deposit bonus will be automatically credit to your online casino profile as soon as you successfully complete the signup and verification process.

Patriots & Gronk Headed for Divorce

There is a universal truth in professional sports; the player and the team always end up divorced. The rare exception holds when that athlete plays his entire career with one team, knows when the treads are completely off his tires, and voluntarily hangs us his cleats, sneakers, or skates with a heartfelt thank you to the fans at a designated tribute celebration the following season. Tom Brady will most likely end his career as one of the few who bow out gracefully and forever be ensconced in the Mount Olympus of New England sports along with Bobby Orr, Ted Williams, and Bill Russell. Yet, framing it as New England sports is deceiving because it implies the quartet had no peers amongst those who played most, if not all, of their careers in Boston when, in fact, their greatness in their respective sports knows no such geographical bounds.

However, this is not Tom Brady’s professional funeral pyre but rather the first shovel of dirt on the grave of Rob Gronkowski’s tenure as a New England Patriot and perhaps his football career. The end is nigh for Gronk, and for several reasons. First and foremost, his injuries continue to mount but unlike in years past, Gronk is no longer able to bounce back and perform at an elite level. He is slower this season and less explosive. When he is absent from the Patriots’ lineup the NFL odds boards take note and New England is affected by a half point or more at the betting windows. He is also knocking at the door of 30-years-old, an age where pro football players (quarterbacks excluded) witness their elite abilities waning while their recovery period lengthens.

In short, Gronkowski is due $12 million next season, the final year of his contract. Bill Belichick is about as sentimental as a goldfish and will undoubtedly view that as a mismanagement of financial resources in a sport where contracts are not guaranteed. Football players don’t get paid for what they’ve done, only what they are poised to do and right now Gronk appears more destined for the trainer’s table than the gridiron.

Yet, there is hope that this impending divorce will be amicable and not turn acrimonious. Gronkowski whispered the word retirement in the offseason and when a player says it aloud, you can be sure that the wheels are already in motion. Gronk has also stated he wants no one other than Tom Brady throwing him passes and if he’s true to his word, then the Rob Gronkowski Appreciation Day may be coming sooner than later.

Oddsmakers Still Bullish on Patriots

When the season began the NFL odds boards at the best online sportsbooks, featured all in one place at Sportsbook Review, revealed that the New England Patriots were once again favored to win the AFC. Despite a stunning 34-10 loss to the Tennessee Titans before their bye week, the Pats are still among the frontrunners to win the conference at +240, trailing only the Chiefs (+200), and are prohibitive favorites to win their 10th consecutive AFC East crown. One would never guess that those who make a book for a living and must calibrate public perception have a very different view than many Pats’ fans who believe the sky is falling, Brady is done, and New England’s decades of domination is now in the rearview mirror.

If we can look at this objectively, the Pats are 7-3 and will have had two weeks to prepare for an underwhelming Jets’ squad in Week 12. In addition to that game in New York, New England will have the luxury of games against the Dolphins, Bills, and another against the Jets in four of their last six games of the season. Although nothing is guaranteed, those four games are as good as wins unless the sky is indeed truly falling. The two true tests will be the Vikings at home and the Steelers on the road. Assuming New England wins one of those two then they will be sitting pretty at 12-4 and that record should get them the No. 2 seed in the AFC behind Kansas City.

All is not lost Patriots’ fans so let’s not deviate from “In Bill We Trust” as we look forward to another championship run in Title Town.

The Daily News Pokes Fun at Gronkowski’s Injury History

The Jets and Patriots are set to square off on Thanksgiving Weekend, in the Week 12 showdown.

But it’s not a Thanksgiving Weekend matchup. No, instead, it’s “Weekend at Gronkie’s,” according to the New York Daily News.

The popular newspaper must have grown tired of trolling the Jets, so apparently they set their sights on the team’s most heated rival. Check out the back page that previews Sunday’s game.

Obviously, this is a reference to the popular 1989 film, “Weekend at Bernie’s.” This particular rendition shows a shades-wearing Gronk, being held up by Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.  The message here is that Gronk is too injured to play and is a shell of his former self.  However, in my opinion, this is a bit of a stretch.  Gronk has taken great care of his body and has just been unlucky.  To recover and build muscle, it is possible to use oral winstrol Steroidsfax, but one can also use a healthy diet and pliability exercises like Gronk has.

However it’s likely the Patriots will have the last laugh as they are 9.5 point favorites heading into Sunday’s game.

The graphic was entertaining, but let’s be honest, Gronk wouldn’t need anyone to hold him up. He could drink for an entire day and still dance like a boss.

The Psychology of Sports: What’s in the mind of a top athlete?

When watching a game, be it from the NFL, NBA or NHL, we can’t help but marvel at the physical specimens that are clashing before our eyes. The years spent in heavy training, fine-tuning every muscle of the body, building monumental endurance and strength protrude from every fiber of pro athletes’ bodies.

But in seeing these physical characteristics, it’s easy to forget that the real battle, the preparation, goes unnoticed because it happens “behind closed doors” — in one’s mind. And how about those who play mind sports like poker? Are there any commonalities between the two types of players? Let’s find out.

It’s All in the Mind

Caption: Athletes face two battles: against themselves and against their opponents.

So, what is it that pro athletes need to overcome to take the coveted win? Sports psychologist Jim Taylor, Ph.D., who works with top endurance athletes, published an interview in Psychology Today where he identifies the mental response to physical breakdown as the decisive moment between reaching the goal line and dropping out. In other words, if athletes win their personal battle and keep pushing against physical exhaustion, then they’ll be competitive.

Of course, waiving off the body signals that are yelling “Stop!” is not a simple feat, and it can be outright dangerous for amateur athletes who don’t have the physical foundations that allow them to push themselves to the limit. It’s the reason pro athletes are so revered — they go where “ordinary” people physically and mentally can’t. So, what can we do to achieve a pro-athlete cognition and physique?

Unsurprisingly, there’s no one answer, which is probably why many people prefer to stay in bad shape — they are looking for a magic formula that doesn’t exist. “Personality is rather amorphous quality. […] most of us naturally adopt […] strategies that fit our personality,” says Dr. Taylor. So, to make it through a taxing workout, you need to find what works best for you mind-wise — not what your favorite athlete is doing (though, the two might coincide).

Of course, a win is not guaranteed, and aside from team preferences, it’s quite fascinating to witness one team defeat another one that spent an equally exorbitant amount of effort and money on preparing for a win.

The Alpha Within

Caption: Studies suggest that when celebrating a win, players show dominant body language.

Just because mental rigidity is a key component of athletic dominance, it doesn’t mean there’s nothing primal about sports. Another Psychology Today article discusses “The Body Language of Victory,” presenting findings of San Francisco State University’s (SFSU) research on post-win microexpressions.

The study looked at Olympic and Paralympic judo athletes and their physical reactions after winning a match. Protruding chests, clenched fists and heads held high were common among the researched group. These are all physical traits that say, “I’m the alpha.”

It might be logical that such reactions would manifest after a sports duel, but these signs of dominant behavior are also apparent in other, non-combatant sports, such as when a scoring soccer player celebrates with a high jump and fist thrown in the air. What’s more, aggressive postures disregard etiquette. Brief displays of such a stance were present even at golf and tennis competitions — events where athletes are expected to exercise composure even during turbulent times. These dominance-related traits were also apparent in congenitally blind athletes, who couldn’t have learned them by observation.

But David Matsumoto, a Professor of Psychology at SFSU, co-author of the judo study and former U.S. Olympic judo team coach, made another fascinating observation. He states that post-win dominance signs are more subdued in athletes who come from “more egalitarian cultures,” suggesting that primal behavior is not uncontrollable.

A Winner’s Mindset

But psychological triggers are not limited to games that measure physical prowess. They are also present when people put their minds against each other, as is the case with poker. “All great players exhibit something called mental toughness,” writes for pokernews.com Dr. Tricia Cardner, a “former psychology professor turned poker player.”

Dr. Cardner goes on to explain that the mental resilience that professional poker players exhibit in coping with “ups and downs” is something that’s also applicable to other areas of life. She notes that there’s increasing evidence that one’s poker performance and psychological state are interlinked. “Your goal as a player is to create a mentally tough mindset that helps you to perform more consistently no matter what challenges you face,” writes Cardner.

That is consistent with what Dr. Jim Taylor says about his “Power of Prime” training concept. “[…] prime performance, […] I see as very different from the popular goal of peak performance. I define prime performance as performing at a consistently high level under the most challenging conditions.” The two scientists reach the same conclusions albeit one of them speaking about endurance sports, the other about poker.

While it might sound discouraging to hear that to cope with everyday stressors we need to develop the mind of a top athlete or poker player, Dr. Cardner reassures that there are a set of psychological traits that if practiced can increase mental resilience.

Caption: These are the eight traits of mental toughness, according to Dr. Cardner.

Caption: Many top athletes practice the art of meditation.

The psychological traits that Dr. Cardner suggests cultivating mental toughness are ingrained in the end goal of a self-developing practice known for centuries, but recently, branded under the name “mindfulness.” WebMD says that “being mindful means paying close attention to what’s happening in the moment.”

Indeed, being aware of one’s environment, both physical and mental, without judgment is what meditation is. Mindfulness, adapted to modern days, is widely practiced as a tool for managing stress, performing under pressure and bringing balance to one’s mental state. There are no set rules about how to practice mindfulness. However, focusing on one’s breathing while noticing bodily and mental sensation seems the most common way.

Science is yet to reach a definitive conclusion about the effectiveness of mindfulness, if possible, but the practice enjoys a fan base even among the major leagues. Kyle Shanahan, the 49ers’ head coach, is one among many of his colleagues who incorporated meditation in their players’ routine. So, too, have many players.

Is athletic greatness inherent or cultivated? Well, the word is still out on this one. What’s for sure is that mental preparedness plays a crucial role in physical training. But does that mean that any person can reach athletic heights by thinking positively? Some believe it’s possible while others say that great athletes are born capable and only polished afterward. In either case, it takes more than brawn to make it to the top of the sports charts.

Belichick Gives His Opinions on Rams/Chiefs on Monday Night Football

It’s likely that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick watched Monday’s Rams-Chief game, as his team could possibly face both teams in the playoffs this season.

The Chiefs nearly beat the Patriots in Foxboro, but came up just short. Still, they have a better record, and the Patriots’ path to Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta could require them beating the Chiefs in Arrowhead Stadium. As for the Rams, it’s highly likely that either they or the Saints will win the NFC, so a Super Bowl appearance could be in the cards for them. In fact, you can bet on NFL futures like Super Bowl matchups at winningsportsbets.co.uk as well as make other sports wagers.

As such, Belichick was asked for his thoughts on Rams-Chiefs, given that it was the hottest topic in sports news on Tuesday. Belichick was asked if he saw Monday’s game, and apparently, he did. Check out his “reaction” to the game.

The Patriots are coming off the bye week, so they could’ve used one of those days to prepare for the Jets, then spent this entire week watching film of the Rams and Chiefs. And they’d still probably beat the Jets with ease. There’s a reason they’re a 9.5-point road favorite in the game.

Classic Belichick, though.
